Question 4l60e Line Pressure...

Anyone have some line pressure numbers on what you can run in a race built 4l60e? Race built I mean like CPT's best trans, probuilts, and other high performance 4l60e specialists.. Any info would be great thanks..

I like 220-235psi. and 240psi. max. I have seen them over this, but certain parts can start to give way. Vince at FLT should be right where I am at here on pressure.

Oh they can go high we had one with a stuck PR valve in our test vehicle with the guage on it at over 300 PSI That was a scarey number to look at , Typically our line ends up in the 240ish max range but have seen tuned cars with the line raised in tuning in the 260 range aparently with out issue. though it does vary from unit to unit by a little this seems to be related to the PCS since we have noted changing several new ones from the box results in average 10 PSI variance. Generally though if they are much more than 240 we will turn down the ajustement to get close to that. When our dyno is complete I plan to have a way to run the trans with no pan and a remote pickup tube and catch pan so these presures can be ajusted real time while the trans is in operation which I think will be both cool and the ideal way to set it.

210-230 here. I like to see 220 on the dyno. I however adjust every unit that I build. I feel that anything over 230 is really pushing it. I have done loads of testing on these units and to much pressure is not needed, as mentioned by Dayna, you will break hard parts.

Sounds like you are going to have a large mess if you plan on running them without a pan on the Astro dyno. Keep in mind that the valve body has multiple exhaust ports. If you have run an answermatic you will know what I mean. As far as Franks comment on raising pressure in the tune of the vehicle to 260psi, this can only be accomplished if the trans is capable of it. Depending on the pressure regulator spring, boost valve size and the epc's max output, this is the only way to accomplish this. If a trans only makes lets say 230 psi with the case connector disconnected, that is all the trans is capable of making. A computer tune is not going to override this max pressure that has already be predetermined by the way the trans has been set up. Every builder has his own ideas of how much pressure is really needed. I honestly have been turning them down and might even go a little more. But hey thats just me.

No Vince that will not be on the astro dyno , But I have set it up before and yes its a little messy but not to bad. Lets you play with some interesting things. Ever made a car shift by stroking a valve with a pick. watched the band lock onto the drum its interesting really if you dont minda tranny fluid bath and hey thats what I live for lol.
