4L60E DIY Rebuild

I want to rebuild my own trans because i dont have the money to pay someone. I was thinking just to get The Master rebuild kit, Billet Servo, Boost Valve, Shift Kit. Is there anything else i should replace and anything i should know.

look up cpt in maryland and call frank. he can recommend some decent planetaries to upgrade to 4l65e. he uses all "bulletproof" parts.

Re: 4L60E DIY Rebuild

If you want a list of bullet proof stuff look at the link in my sig... BTW, Frank can hook you up with parts too, but when you get the price list of all this stuff you realize he really doesn't charge too much more then that to build them... The 3/4 clutch pack in mine was over $150 for just the clutches and steels, just to let you know what your getting into.. Also a master rebuild kit just puts inadiquate factory stuff back in, do a search and you will find a lot of guys that had it fixed by a reputable place just to have it blow a few months later. Most of that is due to them just using a rebuild kit and not addressing the 4l60's downfalls...

Good luck with the project, have you ever seen the inside of your tranny? If not your in for a treat

Re: 4L60E DIY Rebuild

I have emailed CPT twice to no avail. Once before the weekend and once again Tuesday. I had to call and get msg machine to make sure they really existed. I want to go with the performance rebuild if I can ever get in touch with him. Everyone that used him here have good experience with Frank?

Re: 4L60E DIY Rebuild

Bought my parts from the probuilt guy and my rebuilder guy screwed up the 2-3 upshifts somehow because the tranny did it before the rebuild too. I have to tell you though, I have never had an automatic shift as fast as this one, given it doesnt shift into 3rd at WOT but thats not his fault. The shift is pretty hard but not neck breaking hard and really quick too, I bet just swapping out a tranny with his parts and following his install instructions your 1/4 mile times will drop. He's a really nice guy to work with too, had to call him a few times and had my rebuilder call him twice and he was helpful, and damn this guy knows his stuff.

Go with the pro built guy, you won't regret it. His street strip kit is a little over $500 and I believe that will handle up to 550hp. I had to buy a new drum since my old one was warped and his price was pretty reasonable on this too.

Re: 4L60E DIY Rebuild

I just want to clarify my CPT experience. I didn't mean to imply that it was a bad idea to go through Frank at all if that's the way it came across. I have since spoken with him and will be using him. I look forward to having my tranny done by him. Very pleasant/informative to speak with.
