4L60E to 700R4 in a 1994 Z28
4L60E to 700R4 in a 1994 Z28
I am doing a swap from my stock 4L60E to a Pro Built 700R4 and I was wondering what I need to do to make it work properly. It a Pro Street build, has a 3000rpm Vigilante, and Lokar Kick Down Cable/Bracket. It was used in a 3rd Gen car.
Mechanically I think they just bolt up but, I read I need to have the PCM retuned to ignore the transmission. I also saw something about hooking up the kick down cable and buying something to allow the speedometer to work. Whats VSS? Can anyone shed some light on the specifics? I did a search but couldnt find detailed answers. Thanks.

Re: 4L60E to 700R4 in a 1994 Z28
I spoke with Ion about the tuning, supposedly not a problem as long as the speeds sensor is the same or I swap mine into it. Dana from Pro Built explained about checking the tailshaft area for the gear and sensor compatibility. I am pretty sure he said I could swap my tailshaft in there, but it was a long phone convo so I'm sure
I'll have to call back for verification.
Then I'll need to make sure the Lokar TV/kick down cable is installed correctly. Now since I'll be using a 94-97 AS&M 58mm TB I'm going to have to speak with them about possibly getting the parts for a 93 700R4 setup. I'm going to visit my buddy who has a 93 Z28 and see how this setup works.
Then its all about getting the Converter to lockup. This is the tricky electrical part I think. Non lockup wouldn't be bad for a short time, but longterm its going to be really hurting my mileage.
If anyone has details for these tasks feel free to post up.
Thanks Dana and Ion for your assistance today.
