probably not. At least, not a stock 4L60E. You would have to upgrade to a racing 4L60E that can handle the horsepower and torque required to move that car into the 10's.

... Yes the stock tranny can handle it, alibeit for awhile ... it really depends on how often you plan on doing it, how big of shot and how big of converter you will be using ... if you're going to be racing it every week, you will need to up grade.

I've seen more than one make it to the tens on a 150 shot (plus full bolt ons, cam and a tune) ... the stock bottom end gave out before the trannies and I'm pretty sure Terry Berger and Jantzer were both on stock trannies when they went into the 10s N/A.

So yes it will handle it ... unless you are going to the track pretty much every week and making half dozen passes ... then it might hold up for a season ...

it wont last long. but i know someone ran a 10.01 on a a4 (not stock) but the guy that built it will be in the march issuee of gm high tech, and fast93z (tony) will be on the cover and he is running one of this guys tranny that will be in the magazine. and there are several guys in dallas in low 10s and high nines on this guys tanny for more than 2 seasons and are spraying a 300 shot off the line with 4000stall converters.

the point is it will break and you will have to rebuilt it, but the question will you have to rebuilt it over and over agian. and that depends on who builds it.

<<< 4l60E 10.50 car @ 3700 pounds. (trans not stock!)
Expect to get no more than 30 passes before the thing will need fresh frictions and steels.
Start leaving the line on 250+ shot and count on doing this in 10 passes!
Unless your ok with the increased slip you'll see when watching the slip ratio on datamaster.
Datamaster is a must have logging software to stay on top of the condition of the frictions before they let go

I have one of my 4L60E's in a 1996 Firebird that has (twice) went well over 400 passes in the 10.20-10.40 range at 126-130 mph before a teardown. I have a few others (700R4's & 4L60E's) in the 10's, but this is one that has kept "accurate" records of his runs. Yes, they can be built to take it, it is the right combination of parts & correct information that make it possible.
