3.73's
3.73's
So I have to go to work for the rest of the night. My 3.73's are installed as we speak but I don't have time to pick up the car until first thing in the morning. I previously had 2.73's
Pretty excited about what kind of a difference this should make. Any testimonials as to how much of a "seat of the pants"
difference there is between the two ratios?

....the 3.73's are..........disappointing
they are ridiculous in first gear and most of second. But once I hit roughly 70-75mph and I'm already in third gear, the car becomes a slow POS. I'm very frustrated now. I used to be able to fly from 70 to whatever speed I wanted to. Now the engine just sounds like its working twice as hard and moving half as fast.....I don't know what to do, I'm so disappointed

Your car is just as fast, if not faster than before. Its all in your head. There is no reason why 3rd gear would be ...longer...think about it. In essence all your doing is 'spooling' everything up faster w/ high gears.
3rd gear itself wouldn't be slower....but my acceleration from 70-90 will be slower because of the 3.73's. With the 2.73's from 70-90 I was in second gear. 2.73 x 1.67 = 4.56 final drive ratio between 70-90. With my 3.73's my car has to take me from 70-90 with a final drive ratio of 3.73 x 1.00 = 3.73....a drop of .83 in the final drive ratio. That's why it feels slower, and is slower, from 70-90.
Did you program the car for the new gears??
You can't just throw new gears in there without reprogramming the computer for a few things....
Mainly the Speedo and the shift points need to be adjusted.
If you havent reprogramed the comp you'll be very dissapointed because its going to shift too early and all at the wrong times
(In the higher gears its more noticable and you'll be lugging the engine! )

yes, I've recalibrated the speedo and the shift points....but maybe I didn't change the shift points enough....what RPM should I shift at for each shift??? any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks

If your not very happy with you 2.73 to 3.73 jump something is wrong. Your car should feel much faster. Get a stall, pcm tune, and than come post up your results.
A stall, 3.73 and dr's should almost net a full second(.7,.8) off you 1/4 times. There is no way you shouldnt be happy with it.
