3.73 question

I have a 1994 auto with 2.73 is there a way to tell if you have a 7.5 or 8.5 without opening your rearend up. I call a Chevy tech and he said the only way is to measure it once its taken apart. True or false, Thanks

its a 7.5 inch. when you order your gears, you will need to order them for 7.5 or 7 1/2 inch 10 bolt, for the 2-series carrier. 3-series carrier, is for the guys with 3.23's stock.

Well, you could take it apart to find out, but since it's a 4th-gen, you should already know that it's gonna be the 7-1/2" 10-bolt. I don't think anything bigger came in F-bodies since 2nd-gens, which still had the 8-1/2" 10-bolt.

As was just stated above, you need to order 3.73's for a 2-series carrier...........not a problem, as most brands build for 2-series and 3-series carriers.

The GM tech told me it came with both for the 2.73 7.5 and 8.5 and the only way was to take it apart to measure it. I might call another Chevy palce to ask a different Tech. Thanks for the replies.

Not a '94 . That would be the biggest "news" I've heard in a long time if that were true! Trust me dude, you've got the 7.5" just like the rest of us . That's why everyone upgrades to 12-bolt diffs eventually.

The only camaro that came with an 8.5 rear since 81 is the 1LE cars. You would know if you had that car.
