3:73 gears for my camaro????
3:73 gears for my camaro????
I have a 94 camaro z28 automatic. Looking to upgrade the rearend to a 3:73. Will 3:73 still be able to handle everyday freeway driving. Also my car has 126k. No rebuilts or anything will my car handle that type of gear since it will be reving higher for the mileage it has. Does anybody think I should just leave it. Also what do people with a stock camaro z28 auto with a 3:73 usally rev at around 70mph. Also what can you top out at. I top out at 130mph if I have a 373 would I still top out at 130??
1.) you should not top out at 130...when u say top out, do u mean the motor doesnt pull anymore or ur at redline in high gear???
2.) IMO, 3.73s are more than an auto needs. 3.42 is a great gear for an automatic i think. highway driving with 3.73s is acceptable, but not really pleasant.

The A4 loves the 3.73's for acceleration in all the gears but 2600 rpm at 70 mph makes the car feel like it needs a 5th gear.
If I didn't have the money to put in my .78 Gearvendors Overdrive (makes 3.73 into 2.91) after trying the 3.73's I would have gone back to the 3.42's for my daily driver.
My car has 100,000 miles and I too was concerned about the extra wear with the higher rpms.
