3.00 Gears too low?

Im thinking my car will trap in the 160 range. I have 3.50 in the car right now i stop making power at about 6600rpm. The car puts down about 1300-1400rwhp. I have a TH-400 in the car now with 325/50/15. If i drop down to a 3.00 or 2.91 gear do you think that will affect my hole shot?

i would imagine using such small gears would slow you down considerably..

IMO youre bottom end will definately suffer. Especialy if you already get good traction and 60ft times right now. Also it depends on you HP range and where or how early in the curve youre most TQ/HP occur. What is your current trap speed?

With 3.50 gears, a 27.8" tire and a 6,600rpm redline, you are only looking at 144MPH (assuming a small tire growth and a 10% slip on the converter). You should look at a set of 29.5" slicks.... with that kind of HP, you're going to need more sidewall than you currently have.

A 29.5" tire would put you at 154MPH, so you would have to take it up to 6,900RPM through the traps.

Why do you think 1,400rwHP will only trap 160MPH? I was involved with a PRO/Edelbrock 97 SS convertible with only 1,350 FLYWHEEL HP, and it pulled consistant low 160MPH traps, in the mid- to low-8 second range. With the kind of HP you claim, you should be over 170 and close to breaking in the 7's.

Coming out of the hole isn't going to be an issue... you've got to spool it up on a trans brake. You will have more torque than you know what to do with.

I did put a 29.5x10.5 ET on it. They grow a lot. I went through the traps at 159@6700ish

My car weights a lot. When i weighted it with the 4l80e it was at 3620 without me in it. I would say with the 400 its about 3700 with me in it. I think with it turned up it should do 160-170 at that weight

I had a problem with the car as far as rpm. I fixed it and seems to pull to 7k just fine now

I'd squeeze a 315/60/15 radial (30") on before doing 3.00 gears.
