2002 WS6 Popping out of reverse
2002 WS6 Popping out of reverse
Greetings all, I purchased an 02 ws6 6 speed last summer and the damn thing pops out of reverse like no ones bussiness! Its usually something ignorable but it sometimes gets me when i'm in a busy parking lot.
1. What is causing this? (i have papers saying the reverse gear was replaced before i bought it)
2. Is it worth fixing?
also when i hit lock or unlock on the fob (stock keyless entry) the headlights flip up (it didn't do this until i got into a fender bender) and the driver side headlight makes this grinding noise AFTER it has went down.
Everyone i know is baffeled by this, what could be the cause?
thanks for all comments

Just throwing it out there but do you have an aftermarket shifter? There are stop screws (jam nuts) the limit the throw of the shifter. If this has loosened up, it might not allow you to go all the way into reverse thus causing it to jump out.
nope, stock hurst shifter, and it definitely goes all the way in
also if i try to physically hold it in gear, it will make a terrible grinding noise that i prefer not to replicate.

mine sometimes pops out by itself also but if i keep a gently steady pressure on the ball it stays in without a problem. i think its my jam or lock nuts but i havent really checked because its not a big deal. id assume its that first and see how yours look.
My Camaro used to do the same thing. I had to replace the shift fork pads. I had inadvertantly tried to put it into reverse while going for 5th and melted the stock plastic pads. It cost me $2.28 for the stock replacement pads and a lot of time and patience to pull the tranny to repair it. I fixed it last spring and it is still working fine.
First issue, my tranny in my 95 formula does the same thing, stock shifter too, I had started a thread and no one replied to it, guess this is something no one knows much about. Second, my alarm system does the same thing and both of my headlights make that grinding sound. That sound is the stock plastic gear that the motor drives is stripped, go on ebay search for headlight fix, there's a guy who sells metal gears and everything you need to fix it, now I've been told that after that is fixed the alarm issue will be fixed too.
