2000 Camaro SS Trany Shower.
So I just recently bought my camaro (Ebony SS, 5.7L Automatic), and besides a few minor problems (that obviously come when buying a used car) it's been fine. Until yesterday. I was getting ready to unhook my battery before working on the rear defogers. I noticed that the dipstick for my transmission was making a "hissing" sound, which obviously means there was a pressure build-up. I proceeded to take out the dipstick and when I did I got showered with about a quart of tranny fluid. After that happened I put the dipstick back in and cycled through gears, with out turning off the car I checked it again and the levels seemed fine, so I thought maybe it was full for some reason. after I finished working on my defogeres i went to the store, never leaving 3rd gear, when i got back i left it on in park and checked again, and got yet another shower (and when i say shower i mean like the blow hole of a whale..
. If there is one thing i don't know jack about, its transmissions..Please if you could tell me anything that could help i would appreciate it!

Re: 2000 Camaro SS Trany Shower.
Is that something I would be able to get to without dropping it? Is there a schematic that I could get a hold of? Also I'm not sure what kind of transmission is even in this , its stock so is It like 4h65e? Or something like that
? Sorry for all the questions, like I said I'm new to transmissions..

Re: 2000 Camaro SS Trany Shower.
the transmission is a 4L60E, I have one sitting in my shop right now it has blown 3rd and 4th. I was looking at it trying to figure our why it would spit at you. The bleeder valve it attached to a ruber hose that runs to the back on the transmission on the top side. if you can, lift the car and make sure that line is not pinched or crushed ion any way.
is that something i can get to with out dropping it? all i need to do is lift the the car? where exactly am i looking? sorry for the questions haha.
Re: 2000 Camaro SS Trany Shower.
I would look at the radiator possibly pressurizing the transmission. I took a shower once and it was a radiator was pushing pressurized antifreeze into the dipstick. The dipstick holds a very good seal and will let it build very good pressure. Just a simple check. Remove the radiator cap and look nasty looking pink fluid.
Re: 2000 Camaro SS Trany Shower.
OK I checked the radiator. No pick fluid. As far as I could tell it was green. So I'm lifting it tomorrow to look for this bleeder valve. But to be awenest I have no I death what, or where I'm looking for it.
Re: 2000 Camaro SS Trany Shower.
Now what he meant also is the radiator coolant could be leaking into the trans fluid. I thought the trans operated at 100+ psi so how could antifreeze at 15-30psi leak into 100+ psi trans fluid??
Maybe the trans only has that much pressure internally and not through the entire trans and trans cooler system.
Chime in anyone?

Re: 2000 Camaro SS Trany Shower.
Man, I'm so stumpt.. I give up. I'm taking it in to maybe get a rebuild or a new trans. Any advice on that? I'm running a fully stock 350 LS1, Automatic (Definetly getting the 5 speed.) With 5-4 headers and and QTP Low profile cut outs, Any suggestions on a new trans? Need more info?
Re: 2000 Camaro SS Trany Shower.
i would take a airline and hook it up to a compressor and try to blow some air into that breather on top of the trans. Its not that the trans is bad, its just blocked. might have to remove the driveshaft and support the trans to take off the cross member to lower it enough. not a big deal should be able to do it in under an hour.
Re: 2000 Camaro SS Trany Shower.
