1st thread! Transmission problem! I need your help!

Hey guys! This is my first thread, but I've had my car for about 3 years. It's a black 1995 Camaro Z28 v8! I think I've got a problem, you see something has been making a noise underneath the transmission for a while now, like a knocking noise, you can hear it lightly when driving regular but hear it pretty good when you accelerate. Well, recently my gears (it's an automatic ) got stuck and when I tried (kinda hard) to put it in park I guess I tried a little too hard and well, now my car won't reverse and it won't park, you just have to turn the car off and pull up the E-brake. Also, my car can now only be drivin about 15-20 mph, any faster and it sounds like somethings gonna blow. My questions are, what (do you think) the problem may be? Will I need to replace my entire transmission? Also for the big question, how much do you think it'll run me?

Thanks guys, and it's a pleasure being here! I'll make it a priority to come here often as I plan on hooking my ride up! Keith

the thumping is the torque arm hitting the underside of the car. Check the mount on the side of the tailshaft housing on the tranny.

The other problem could be as simple as something causing the shift lever not to move but it could be problems inside the tranny. You might need to have it rebuilt.

Thanks for the info, i'll check the torque arm, is that an easy fix? The tranny will probably have to be rebuilt, it's got 139,000 miles on it, and as always I'm expecting the worst situation that could happen. Any idea on the price with labor seeings how I have no experiance whatsoever in this type of situation?

I didn't have any experience either, but the installation was cake.

If you want to do some "free mods" to your car, there are a few easy ones you can do.

it is probably the mount came apart. It happened to me a week after i got the car. Prices on tranny rebuilds vary from area to area. PM camaro4lifess about it. His dad owns a transmission shop and he is the builder. He can give you a better idea of what it takes and how much they charge but like i said it will vary.

Re: 1st thread! Transmission problem! update!!!: LINKAGE PROBLEM!

I just got the call back from the guy at the shop! He said that my car's transmission has the wrong size linkage, and that was the problem. That's all that he said though, so does it sound bad? Also, anybody know the price of some transmission linkage work? Let me know all you can guys I'm really needing help here and any little thing or past experiance from you would really help me out!

THANKS!
