OR, get an A4 LS1 w/2.73's and it comes factory with a selectable 1st gear. My shifter has 1, 2, D, OD, N, R, P --- same as a 3.23 geared LT1 car. With my car though, if I put the shifter into 2nd, it will start in 2nd, and stay there no matter what. 1st gear will start and stay there as well. Once you hit D(rive), it'll start at 1st and shift through all the gears though.

Why dont you put some info about your car in yoru sig like the gearing and that its an A4 and any mods that you have done. So when people like myself go to try to help you with different matters it makes it a whole lot easier!

Actually, it probably says 2 3 D N R P, from bottom to top. That's the way mine is. I'm going to have to cut out a '1' in the cover piece and try to rig the console so that when I put it in 1st, it actually shows it. It's been a fun day messing around with that, and I'm sure it will be a lot of fun the next time I cruise around campus. There's so much power in 1st that, when going about 10-15, if I stomp the gas pedal the car jumps forward.... sweet since I don't have to worry as much about traction as I would from a standing start... and no slight hesitation that would occur if I were in 2nd and having to switch to 1st.

I'm glad my post spurred some interest! Didn't expect it. Anybody know the top speed to be in 1st gear cruising? I would assume around 30 with 2.73's. That's probably around 4k rpm or so. Anybody think it will hurt the tranny? Or how about driving in second and downshifting manually to 1st? Hurt the tranny? I know it depends on how fast you are going.

Steve
