Is your car a squatter or a stander??

I go to several NHRA/IHRA divisional and national events a year and of course I watch the F-body's closely in Stock Eliminator and those Stockers who compete in Super Stock. On the launch there seems to be 2 different schools of thought taking place and I've discussed these with many different car owners/drivers, some cars at the hit immediately have massive separation between the rear tire and opening (we'll call those the standers) and others have some body separation but more appear to be squatting (the squatters).

Both styles are cutting extremely good 60's, in the 1.28 thru mid 30's area. Both styles are all using roughly the same equipment (suspension parts). What are your thoughts?

The wild card(s) seems to be in the rear spring and the pinion angle and front shocks/springs, I've measured tons of these cars and found some differences in lower control arm height but overall they are the same.

My car shows the initial hit however the front ends rise in travel is matching in speed or just a hair quicker than the rear so I do not get the big body to tire separation. My car leaves well for the lack of HP it has however I'm looking to pick some brains to hopefully gain some additional insite and help others.

If you could include the following:
torque arm type
pinion angle
rear spring
rear lower control arm mounting location (stock or lower than stock)
basic shock setting (rear)
basic shock setting front
Front spring

60' times

and a description or video of yours cars launch

Wolf sway bar (single lower)
UMI adj TA relocated to crossmember
Non-adj LCAs
LCA relocation brackets on lower hole
-2 pinion angle
No front sway bar
Stock shocks front and rear
Mid 1.50 60' NA

Heres a few pics

Weight transfer to the back, on hard acelleration makes the back end squat- acellerate hard enough, with enough traction, and you get a wheelie, all the weight on the back end-

The opposite effect is the torque that is trying to twist the front of your real axle up, in reaction to the torque of trying to twist the front of your rear tire down, to launch- depending on springs, control arm locations, torque arm lenght and mount, you may get the axle 'pushing down' out of the body- actually not too bad of a thing, as it *may* push the tires against the pavement a little to help get some bite-

When I read the title, I thought you were talking about peeing!

Stock torque arm
Stock LCA's and PH
V6 rear springs w/air bag in right (roughly 20psi normally)
Comp Eng 3-way rear shocks, 50/50
stock front suspension & sway bar
stock converter & 3.23 gears
BFG Drag radials

1.9x 60' times

my car leaves like greasey's, but likely a lot slower.

mine squats and my 60 ft sucks( 1.52)I am thinking my tire pressure was too low (9.0psi first time out) A few people have told me I could go as high as 15.0 ish on a good track prep. What are you mid 10 second guys running for tire pressure with a good drag suspention and 26 inch et drags?

Does any of this have to do with what the car's suspension consists of; ie. is it a coil, leaf, or torque arm setup? I too have grown up around Stock Eliminator racers and still pick their brains when I'm working on something. I had a '95 Impala SS (coil spring car of course) and it would "stand" to low 1.60s 60' times. It was a bolt-on car (original 150,000 mile LT1) and weighed 4,000 lbs. Physics tells you that if there is a force present to "lift" the back of the car there must be one also working in the opposite direction to plant the tires. That was also my thought and how I was taught.

Mines a stander
[IMG][/IMG]

Front:
no sway bar
moroso BBC trick springs-dart lil m block is heeeavy
lakewood 90/10 struts
stock k member and remainging parts up front stock as well

Rear:
Jegster adjustable tq arm
spohn tubular LCA
stock rear springs
wolfe crat single anti roll bar
-3 pinion angle
ford 9" 4.56 gear in the pic, just put the 4.11 back in it trying ti tame it down and lose trap rpm at the stripe.

Before with the stock tq arm the rear end squatted, once i installed the new short arm it increased anti squat big time and wheel well to tire gap stays the same from sitting idle to launching.

I'm in the process of reworking the suspension on my car, mosting readjusting and fine-tuning everything (so it will stand "less" and be more consistent). My best 60fts have been 1.48s, but at times (not sure why, not always the track) they slip into the 1.50s.

The silver Z28 is mine. The video and photos are the old set-up.

Front:
QA1s 90/10s and coil-overs (now set on lowest setting)
no sway-bar
Just added tube K-member and A-Arms (-60 pounds maybe)

Rear:
Metco LCAs w/ relocation brackets
Spohn adjustable T/A and Pan-Hard (-3 degrees)
Stock sway-bar
50/50 gas-charged shocks
Eibach drag-pack springs (just changed this, modified them to lower rear ride-height) w/ air-bags
Goodyear 10.0 x 29" slicks

I got a new converter and tried it out yesterday.....

Car pulled up hard then something felt like it broke/slipped andit came down quick. But still cut a 1.52 so I think mid 1.40 or better will be easy.

Waiting on a new trans now

Mine neither squats or stands. It's nothing but a completely level brick that spins or bogs.

I am in the middle, I both lift the front end while squating a little still...

That was with stock torque arm, stock rear spring, stock LCA's, and PHR. The only rear suspension parts I had were, cheap comp. engeneering shocks and 1" spohn drag bar.

The front suspension is all stock except for the QA1 front coil overs, !swaybar.

I have recently gotten:
Fully adjustable rod ended LCA's
LCA relocation brackets
and I am in the middle of putting together my own rear coil overs based one QA1 coil overs with 150 # springs.

When I get it all installed I need to figure it all out again since it is a big change.
