Talking Woo Hoo!! 12's, finally!

So I went to the track (Cayuga) today with my Dad and a few of my buddies. This was the first time we were going to be running my Dad's '73 with the new motor, and with the ET Streets on it. I ran the best time of the day with it on the very last run (after a few 13.2 - 13.8 runs, and a couple 14.xxx runs). The time I got with it was 12.795 @ 109.72, with a 60' of 2.159 (<--bad 60'!), but considering that was over a .4 second drop from the next best of the day, we were really happy!

My car ALMOST hit a 12! 13.060 @ 106.49, 1.920 60' to be exact. If it weren't for hitting 12's with the '73, I would have been pi$$ed off by the end of today!

A couple other note-worthy times were my buddies' LT1's. Both of them are board members on here (LT1 PWRD and 97z28/m6). The '95 Z28 (LT1 PWRD) is an A4 w/3.73's, but is otherwise relatively stock, and he ran a 14.00 (@ 98~ish I think ). The '97 Z28 is an M6, 100% bone stock, right down to plugs, wires, filter, you name it, and he ran 13.8 @ 100! That was awesome, considering my LS1 didn't even break into 13's the first year I had it at the track!

All in all, it was a good day of running. Everyone (except one friend with a '96 T/A) ran really good times, but the T/A only hit 14.6 @ 96. I guess he's gonna be back to the drawing board!

I just gotta say though, 12's are awesome!!! I can't wait 'til my car is into the 12's!

I know how you feel. I finally figured out my loss of hp problem today and moved back into the mid 10's. I was struggling to get out of the low 11's all season after running mid 10's last fall.

I had a fuel problem and was running extremely rich on the secondary side.

Congrats! Soon enough I'll be there,....actually no, not soon enough. I want it now, but that won't happen. You've got it easy with the LS1.

I guess! You should have seen me though, it was hilarious.....my Dad said I looked like a captain trying to save my ship.....I came in after the 13.06 run and a 13.08 run, and I started pulling everything out of the trunk! I mean spare tire & jack, my sub box, the floor mats! I was going to try to disconnect the front sway bar too, but the nuts were rusted on and the bolts seemed like they wanted to snap, so I left it on.

.....I was SO desperate to hit 12's, but after I pulled all that stuff, I only ran 13.1!! I think by that point, the air was warming up, 'cause I also lost about ~1 mph, but my 60' times were still the same (1.9xx) so it was simply that the car couldn't to it. Next time I guess.

@ the floor mats. I've been thinking about taking out the back seats for good.

I'm not kidding either! It was almost as a joke though, 'cause there was a guy running there who had the WHOLE INTERIOR of his car dumped on the ground a couple spots over from where we were parked! I mean, all the seats (except driver's, obviously), the console/glovebox, carpet, and a whole bunch of other crap!

Thanks for the good words though boys. I'm picking up a set of BFG drag radials (hopefully tomorrow? ) so I'll see if I can cut the 60' time down anymore, and maybe that'll squeak me into a 12?? If not, I may have to go against my long time reservation against a stall converter! As much as I know everybody loves them, I've also heard some horror stories about them, that they ruin tranmissions to quickly because of the extra heat? I've always been afraid to run one, but I'm starting to consider it now, because I know that would put my car into a solid 12-second run. We'll see!

You can do it easily Pete. Heat the DRs up and stomp it on the 3rd yellow. but it may not happen in the hot weather.
Have you ever considered a cut out for the track??
With a lid and loudmouth and the free mods my 2000 went 12.96 on a good cold day.

That's probably a good idea! A cutout! I'm sure that would free up the exhaust over my current Flowmaster (aka: "Choke-master", as some like to call them ).

If you run any faster, you won't make a particular someone with a 14.5 second Trans-Am very happy though! He'll be out there slashing your tires!

Re: Woo Hoo!! 12's, finally!

congrats and keep at it with the 02....the sway bar will help with the 60 foot tremendously...i see guys with stock suspension picking up a tenth with it removed (not loosened, just pull it out, trust me you won't notice its not there after a couple days.)

i was ecstatic the first time i went 12s....made 6 passes that day, 13.3, 13.2 13.2 13.2, 13.0...just as they were going to end the session, i got the guy to give me one more pass....12.96 @ 103....it made the whole day worth it..relativity is a funny thing....if i went 12.90s with the car the way it is now, id burn it...

I hear ya! It's like, once you hit a certain time & speed, you NEVER want to run slower again! Once I hit that first 13.06 (which was better than my previous best of 13.21) I was hell-bent to get a 12, but over the course of the day, my car got slower and slower, to the point it was running 13.1's. BUT.....13.1 is still quicker than 13.2!!!
