who has modified their wiring harness/got rid of interior wiring?

I am building my 1994 Camaro into a road race car. I would like to rid the car of all the wiring except what is needed to run the PCM/engine and maybe the ABS. Is there anyone out there who has done this, and can tell me how to go about it?

I have a working harness, so it seems to be a waste to spend $600 on a Painless, or other, harnes to achieve this goal.

Any help would be appreciated!

93 wiring removal

I see you never got a response and searches only bring up your unanswered post.
Has anyone sucessfully removed unnecessary wiring in a Drag car? Painless is good but expensive.

I am unwrapping and cutting as I go and have to start the car after every cut wire. AIR bag wiring / modules is a NO NO as I have found out. Remove the module under the glove box and the car would not start! There has got to be a way to instert a resistor or tie the wires back together to make the module/computer think all is "OK".

Thanks for any help,
Jim

I ripped out all my wiring and rewired only what I needed. I don't have EFI so it's not that hard. The wiring might not look as pretty as factory wiring but at least I know where everything goes.

I ended up getting it done.....was not easy. I have both the factory manuals....the wiring manual alone is the size of a phone book!

It took me about a month of studying the manual and triming back wires.....I ended up removing ALL the interior wiring and computers/modules......ran in 3 or 4 wires to power PCM and DLC....put the fuel pump on a toggle switch, and the starter on a button......works like a charm.....

I have a fuse block that ALL the interior wires in the car go to now....3 or 4 for the PCM....a couple for various other stuff...

I can send you a copy of the fuse block layout.....all my notes of what is wired INSIDE the car are on a legal pad...
