Went to track today...times inside

Just want to share my experience today. I have not been able to go in over 6 months. I only got 4 runs in 4 hours. There was a spectacular crash with the car in front of me in line. It was a full-on road race car, testing out a new engine. Well a slick track and roadrace tires dont mix, and he went sideways and into the guardrail on the next lane. A couple of runs later a SS crossed the center lane and took out the cones. And finally, a guy dumped radiator fluid on the top end, which I ended up going through squirly at 70mph or so. That was enough for me, and I packed it up. If I had some more time and a not so slippery track I know I couldve broken into the 8.8s. Anyways, new times are in sig and are on 255-50-16 street tires. Feedback? Where to go from here? Next time I go I will have some drag radials, so how!

Thanks. I didnt have but 1 other LT1 car there. He was a 94a4 with a 2500stall and CAI with N20. He didnt run too well, 9.5s without the juice, and 8.9s with it. There were a crapload of 03-04Cobras and LS1s though. Most LS1s were hitting high 7s...I felt a little slow

Your LT1 is easly capable of high 7s in the 1/8 with the correct mods and without N2O, so don't let those Cobra and LS guys get you down. Here are the basic mods you need; 3.73 gears, 3200 stall, cam (possibly LT4 hot cam) and some PCM tuning. You've already got the long tube headers and some of the other basics.

What part of the country are you from and what track were you at? Our track here in Oklahoma opend in Feb, but we're currently recovering from an ice storm. So, maybe this coming weekend will be nice.

Re: Went to track today...times inside

Im in west FL, track is in Holt. I dont get a chance to go out much right now, Im in training again. 3.73s might be a bit too much for me $$ wise right now. I will keep an eye out for a cheap 3.42 rear from an M6 though. I would think that would help at least a tenth.
I was looking at low priced stalls today online too. I was reading about some ebay retalled stock converters being worth a little over 2 tenths in the 1/8th and costing about $130. I dont know if I will go that route, but dont want to drop major $$$ on a converter in my lightly modded car.
Last thing is traction...I would get some DR before going back again. Where is a good place to score some Nittos for cheap?
BTW, I've been doing my own tuning, with some help. I need someone to take a look at the tune and log though to see where I can improve it. I had a knock at 4000 100kps that wouldnt go away unless I run 28deg or less in that block. Thats a lot of timing pulled out. Maybe its lean there? Dont know for sure. I know I can get a 8.8 with what I have, just need to play with it some more. Thanks for the feedback guys! Goal for next outing is 8.6s, just dont know when. What do you think about the mph? What were you running?
