a warning about my recent dealings with Yank

I've had an interesting experience with Yank as of late and I am sending along links to my clubs board that has all the details. I have gotten e-mails from others across this great country of ours and we are not alone in our pain.

I do not advocate dealing with Yank converters due to their poor business practices and customer service. Excellent product. Perhaps demands and workload have overrun capability to keep up.

Right now we're being told by our credit card company to just stick to a holding pattern and something will happen.

The sad thing is that if they are so short-staffed or having some problems with distributors and such.....why did it not even take them 24hrs to charge my card in the first place....

we have now spoken to 5 custom converter companies that state Yank has some of the best products out there, but it is not common practice for their companies to charge the customer before a product is even built.

Went through the same thing you did but I stuck it out and waited on the converter. (Took almost 7 weeks to get it), in fact I have a web page dedicated to my dealings with him.

Don't take this as a flame, this is what I found out through my credit car company.
Basically he has every right to charge the credit card at the time of the order placed. There is no law against this at all. According to my credit card company we have the right to contests the charge up to two months after the order was placed. In another words if I did not get my converter and the two months was getting close I would have contested the bill, but since the converter did come in I did not have to worry about it. Is this common for companys do this, yes in fact very common.

You also have the right not to order it from them as well.

I agree that it's not right but there is not to much we can do about it other than put the word out. He has a great product but his customer service or there lack of is going to cost him in the long run. I also have been noticing lately that he has dedicated more time to the LS1's guys than the LT1's guys and if your name is not on his so called "Special" list you will wait for a very long time to get the converter.

Good Luck

All of these bad dealings with this company is exactly why I went with Precision Industries not trying to throw it in anybodys face but I have been hearing horror stories about YANK for a while.

Ken,
not taken as a flame at all. The point was that I hadn't heard all the horror stories about their service. I'll take a part any day that is 90% as good as the best if I can get good customer service. I went to Yank because of what I had observed of the product compared to others.

Yes, they are allowed to charge me the moment I call, even before the product is ready. My point is that I was told it would be delivered in 7-10 days and after this time period had passed, I called and it wasn't even built yet and I was never informed there would be a delay. They had my money and I had no product and my daily driver was sitting on jackstands waiting for a converter (another tranny had bit the dust). I waited a bit longer and still there was no firm date on when I might receive it. I cancelled the order and asked that they recredit the card. No problem they told me. A week went by and nothing. I called, left several messages and I even got one call back because they were confused as to whether I wanted the converter (it was then done) or if I wanted the refund. The story goes on and on.

The point is, there was no hesitation in charging my credit card, but seems to be a lot of confusion about when a product will be completed/shipped and how/when a refund is provided. Not the way to do business.

Like I said several times....I love the product. I'm sure Mike is as great guys and knows his stuff. The business side of it spoils the whole deal.

I ended up getting a used Yank 3200 the day I cancelled. I needed my car going again and a local guy just happened to have one behind the LT1 in his Z28 that had lost a wrist pin. Yeah, I was a vulture.

Perhaps if I ever need another for my car, I can again find a used Yank. I won't attempt to buy new from them again unless they off load the business dealings to some competent personnel or get a handle on what they are doing now. Precision seems to have good customer support from what I hear and their converters are pretty close to Yank's.

Good deal, glad to see you got your car on the road.

There were many times I called them and they said it was shipped to find out it was not. Waiting on a part or something like that. My tranny went out had it back together within a week or so and waited on the new coverter for 5 weeks.

I know next time chances are I won't order another from them just because of the hassle. PI or TCI I will look at closely next time. I heard to many good things about the Customer Service at these places.

Very typical of a small time shop, they do their buddies stuff before everyone elses. Ive been a victim of this too, took my chassis guy 8 months to build a torque arm, install a 6pt cage and an aluminum wing. Every time my buddy went out to his shop he noticed the chassis guy working on his buddies cars while mine sat in the corner. Funny thing was he wasnt getting hardly any money, I had my cash money ready for when he had the car finished.

Yank gave me the same headache 1 1/2 years ago. I had a Precision Industries 2800 stall Vigilante, but I decided to try a Yank because of the ETs I saw with his converter in some LS1 cars. I called Yank, they said the converter was in stock and that I would have it in a week. Great! I pulled my tranny and sold the Vigilante. Well, the 1st week came and went. I had my car out of commission as I waited for the Yank to be delivered during the next 6 weeks. Each time I called they apoligized, offered a lame excuse and promised that my converter was going out that day. Each time it was a LIE! Finally after the 6 weeks I cancelled my order. To Yank's credit they did immediately refund my credit card. Since I was without a converter I called Precision Industries and told them this story. Precision said that they were sorry that I strayed from the Vigilante line and they would make it so I never wanted to buy anything other than a Vigilante. They shipped me a new converter NEXTDAY air at NO EXTRA COST to me for the expedited shipping. Best customer service I have ever had with an aftermarket auto parts company. Precision Industries

i would highly recommend PI. i recently decided to order a converter. didnt like yank cause they coudnt tell me **** about where there converter would stall on my car being a v6. they wouldnt custom make me one to stallat 3500 like i wanted..said i had to get a 4000 stall and it *should* stall near 3500 on my car..

anyways i went with PI. they hit the stall perfectly. so i get the converter and me and some friends tried to install it ourself. well after installing it and not getting it fully on the pump i went and drove the car. front pump went bad instantly on trans

pulled converter out of car and had it towed to my house. called around to the trans shops and was finding a place to fix my car. anyways angie at PI saw my posts on the net about all my trouble. and got in contact with me, i never called them or complained i knew i messed up install and converter was fine. anyways she said she would feel better if they took a look at converter and made sure everything was ok with converter before i had it put back in. they pay for next day air shipping for me to ship it to them, the check it and clean it out and put it in a new casing since i scratched the old one badly. i get converter back 2 days later via next day air and have it installed at trans shop.

PI's customer service is far superior to anyone that i have dealt with. i would gladly purchase another vig when i move into the LS1 arena

That's great!
No way that you would ever get that from Yank!
PI did not have to do that at all, they also know how valuable the customer really is.
