Is this trade worth it?
Is this trade worth it?
I am considering trading my 95Z for a Spitzer 125" wb altered with a small block. I am wondering if this is a even trade. My car has the following mods:
95 Z28 "1LE" with a T-56 six speed, B&M Ripper shifter. 383 built by White's Auto. ATI ballancer, Eagle forged crank, Eagle forged H-beam rods, TE/SRP forged pistons, flowed & ported stock heads, stock intake, 58mm Holly throttle body, stainless valves, self-align roller rockers, hardened push rods, crane came, double roller timing chain, CSI electric water pump, Accel 36# injectors, computer program with LT1 edit, Double walbro 240 LPH fuel pumps, Hooker long tube headers, custom Y-pipe w/ dual electric cut outs, Borla stainless cat-back behind y-pipe.
S.P.E.C stage IV ceramic clutch, Moser 12 bolt w/ Richmond 4.56 "Pro" gears and Eaton "Pro 800" posi, Hal/SA1 12 way adjustable front shocks, Comp Engenering 3 way adjustable rear shocks, Weld racing 3.5 fronts & 10" rears wheels, FJ Smith rear traction bars (latter bar style), S&W torque arm.
Harwood ram-air/cowl hood, Volant airbox, 8-point roll bar, battery relocated to trunk with sealed box, full interior.
Nitrous Experss Gen III EFI singe stage system, MSD 6al ingnition, MSD launch control, MSD timing retard (for N2O), NOS progressive controller.
This car is a true street driver and will idle in traffic with no problems. It runs 11.20's @ 122 MPH in the 1/4, on pump gas, on the motor and should run 9's on nitrous. I may have forgotten a few things.
I am considering trading it for the Altered below. Don't worry I would paint the altered.

I guess what I am really asking is could I get more than $15K for my Z. I have always thought I could sell if for $15K and that would be an even trade for this car but I want to know if you guys think I can sell it for more. BTW the hood is not painted and the body could use a fresh paint job.
There are some pics of the camaro in my web page in the sig if you want to take a look.

The problem is you never know who built the chassis? I understand its a Spitzer car but is it a Spitzer chassis kit inwelded? Big Difference. From the add posted it really doesn't even touch on some of the most important items like is the car a DOM mild steel or moloy chassis? Is it legal and up todate not to mention certified? Has the car ever been in any crashes?
Be carefull with purchasing a used drag car! Its really easy to get taken if you don't know what to look for when it comes to possible problems and or workmanship.

No flame intended, but you will never get out of your car what you have in it unless you find a very select buyer who has 15K cash and it's exactly what they're looking for. Keep in mind that no finance company is going to loan that kind of money for a '95 Z/28 no matter what it has done to it, especially if it needs to be painted. Any potential buyer better have at least half in cash. So if you want to "get out" of the car for some reason, it would seem that a trade would be your best bet.
With that said, JWINN is right. You never know what you're going to get with a used race car. If you're really serious about this trade here is what I suggest you consider:
Hire someone who knows a LOT about drag cars - possibly even someone who builds them for a living. Make sure they don't know the car or the owner, so you will eliminate any "funny business" between the two people. Pay the third party a reasonable price to scrutinize the car and pick the owners brain apart to see what the car has been through, how old it is and when various parts of the car have been freshened up, such as the engine, transmission and third member. And don't forget to ask the owner to look at his log books on the car. Many times people will make notations in their log book as to when things were done to the car, such as new gears, torque converter, etc. and even when things broke or didn't work right. This could indicate recurring problems with the car or potential problems.
Also keep in mind that altered's are some of the cheapest race cars you can build. IMO a small block altered for 15K is a bit much. 10K - 11K would seem more in line, unless the car is almost new. When negotiating you can always go down in price, but you can't go up. The seller is starting at 15K expecting a lower offer. He's probably put a price on your car of 10-11K figuring he's looking at another 3K for a nice paint job.
Just my $0.05 (inflation, you know?). Take it for what it's worth. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I like the car and would probably keep it but if you really want to go fast the altered is the way to go. It looks like a nice car and would probably be a decent trade. Have you ever run your car on N2o? No 1/4 times on the gas? Either way I think your car would be worth 15k withall the expensive parts you have in it just hard sometimes to sell a race/street car. Goodluck either way Later
Personally I would keep the 4th gen...like you said you can drive it on the street, obviously with an altered you cant.
Its up to what you want more...is the altered worth all the $$ and time you put into the Z? If you think so go for it...
Personally if I had to ask advice of others I wouldnt think it was meant to be.
