track times...now what???

Well guys....i've reached the point in the game where in order for me to go faster im gonna have to spend alot of cash.

Best time yet 7.9xx @ 86 mph 1/8th 12.4xx @ 109 mph 1/4 w/t 1.75 60'

consistent times (different track) 8.0xx @ 85 mph 1/8th w/t 1.76 60'

Im happy but yet sad....I dont know what to do to drop some time...

I mean options: nitrous ($600 initial cost...but $35 a bottle), heads ($1600), skinnies and drag lites ($1000 rims and tires)

as far as weight reduction goes, I've: removed spare tire and jack, no power door locks or windows, back seat and rear seat belt delete, and its a hard-top, also 1/4 tank of gas.

I mean i could switch gears from 3.23's to 3.73's, but would that really help, and is it worth the risk of weaking the rearend. And still, that gonna be like $400

Any suggestions on how to drop some time???

Thanks,

Pride

Is the car a daily driver? What are your goals with the car? these are things you need to think about before making your next purchase.

I have done most of my mods on the cheap except where I had to spend the money and most of the time bought used parts off other board members and if I got new stuff they came from board sponsors. Hell, it looks like you have the mods to be making more power then me, and before I got into weight reduction/suspension I was in the 12.5 range. if you want it on the cheep it is all about weight reduction at this point, but then if it is a daily driver you may no want to gut it, so yeah you need to start spending more money. But, analyze your end goals and figure out what will help you on the way, that you won't grow out of, then you know what to buy next.

You definately need more gear like 3.73's and if done right will hold up at your power level being your an auto. That along with longtube headers and good dynotune should put into the 11's with everything right. It looks like you are doing good for what you have being my car about 5-6 yrs back ran, 12.50@108mph, almost identical setup to yours, Hotcam and all, back when it had the 3.23's in the rear and I had just started modding the car. Ole Ken ran 11.90's with a Hotcammed auto. Goodluck.

Car is not a daily driver; however, I dont want to gut it.

If I do the gears....how much time do you think I can pick up...assuming I keep the same 60'?

also...since Im running the heavy zr1's, would it be worth swopping rims to drag lites or atleast skinnies on the front...or slicks on the back since that would free up weight and also hp since there on the back tires?

thanks,

pride

wheels/rotating wt. will pick you up quite a bit. Maybe .1-.2

I'd do a mix of mild weight reduction and gears, then swap on the better wheel tire combination.

Send the gears out to be micronited or cryo'd, you should be fine for a while.
