Thoughts on how 3.73's will affect my ET/MPH? Oh, and new best :)
Posted this on LT1 tech too, but here's my newest times on my setup:
.533 r/t 12.558 @ 107.69 (this was on a 12.55 dial in
), 1.773 60'
The run was on my usual 16" Nitto's and was a dead hook.
I plan to remove my stock 3.23's soon and replace them with 3.73's.. with my current setup in my sig, and my current times, shifting at around 6200, what do you think the effect would be on my ET/MPH?
I'm also planning to up the stall to either a 3200 or 3400 (currently a 2800 Vigi) and trying to see what I should go with. I'd like to start cutting 1.5's on ET Streets... and get the car into the very low 12's w/ stock heads. Maybe even touch the 11's in good weather.

Nobody can tell you how much it will pickup or if it will p/u at all. Some cars react differently. I have never run 3.73's in my car so I don't know but I will tell you when I went from 3.23's to 3.42's I didn't notice hardly any gain ET wise. It should make your car faster but there is only one way to find out. If I were you I would take the $200 for gears +the $150-200 for instsll and buy a N2o kit. Then you could go out and run 11.50's@117-119mph

More than likely you will see a good size differance. When we changed the gears outta my buddys car (273s) and went to 373s it was nuts. It had so much more pick up. In your case the jump isnt as big so it wont be as noticeable but should be good for acouple tenths give or take a few.
Good luck,

What rpm are you finishing the quarter in 3rd gear? Putting in 3.73's will put you closer or at your peak power right at the end of the track which is where you want to be, most likely wont effect your mph much, more the ET, but only one way to find out.

I was running 13.0's when I put my 373's in and picked up about 3 tenths from just that mod. I can't guarantee you will be exactly 3 tenths faster but it should be close. You are doing well. Too bad you aren't on the west cost so we could go head to head.
One big problem with the gear change is lack of traction. It'll be much harder to stick the launch. Even with drag suspension I'm still having a hard time. I might have to go with a 28" tire or ET drag. 11's are possible very possible. I'm currently running a 3k stall 9X11 converter which hits like a ton of bricks. I'd highly recommend it.

Would be nice to go head to head with a few other LT1's one of these days.. all the peeps around me are LS1 cars that I hang out with, but I get to hurt a few of their feelings so it's ok

But I will be stepping up to a bigger tire as I'm also looking to increase the stall. I might be at the track again this weekend and I can check out where my RPM is at the traps.
He he. The car is somewhere close to 2800#. One time I was low on gas and weighed in at only 2785. The problem is that my fatazz is about 230#. Here is a link that you should find helpful:
Gear ratio tire size calculator
I've been known to embarass some LS1 cars from time to time. The most recent was a T/A with ported heads and cam.

Ditto, i don't think you'll see more than a tenth. i only gained 2 tenths going from 3.42 to 4.10's, and spent almost $800 on gears, take-off diff, cover, and install. N2O would have been a better way to go.

I'm trying to get closer to my goal of whacking 11.9 with stock heads... I'm also planning on upping my stall (free via Precision industries)..
any and all input would be great..
If you are only crossing at 5100-5200 rpm, you are obviously not using all your power to its potential. Actually with your cam you are probably making power to 6200? 4.10's might be a more perfect gear but 3.73's would put you at about 5800, maybe higher. Id put in gears, unless your going to spray then leave yours in or you will run out of gear.

I might spray mine in the future, but right now I'm more concerned about hitting my current goal of very low 12's or cracking 11.9's on stock heads. We'll see!It looks like I'll be ordering the 3.73 package from Tbyrne with Superior packaged GM gears.
