which suspension parts help and which hurt

My car has 2.3-2.4 60' times right now and I want them to be improved GREATLY. The only things that I can think of that hurt the traction are the stiffer springs from hotchkis and the lack of decent shocks, still stock, and its been lowered about 1.5 inches. I do have the lca brackets which give the lca's a better angle i think but its not hooking up at all at the track and there is no noticable weight transfer....like friends watching say the car just stays level during the launch. I want to know if I can fix this somewhat by getting some better tires like bfg drag radials, some good shocks like Hal maybe and adjusting the torque arm. Also what angle should I set it to. I would just get drag springs and raise the car back up in the back but I love teh way the car handles and dont jsut want a drag car but do want to improve the offline traction. Anyone know of some springs that are a good compromise? Also list some of your suspension setups and how they work off the line and in the twisties. Thanks!

Buy some new slicks first. Wheel spin is wheel spin and better suspension won't make a street tire hook up any better.

You already have LCA relocation brackets so that's a start. I ran stock shocks and springs for years with no problems. You wan't see any improvement with those. Change the LCA and panhard bar to something aftermarket. You need to get rid of the flex in the stock parts. Buy an adjustable torque arm from places like www.spohn.net It comes with complete instructions but around 3* down pinion angle is a good place to start. Buy the air bags that fit inside the rear springs. They're a tuning aid so start with about 5psi in the drivers side and 15 psi in the passenger side.

Get some sub frame connectors.

That's about it.

I would suggest that you buy front shocks from HAL/QA-1.
That will greatly improve your weight transfer, even with stiff springs.
The drivers side air bag is not really needed. The car will always want to twist to the passenger side.
Sub frame connectors are very important. Tires are the biggest factor of all, nothing beats slicks.
Do these things first and then worry about torque arms etc.

Good Luck,

Daren

(When I was running IHRA Pure Stock, I had low 1.70 sixty foot times with stock springs front and back, stock rear shocks, frame connectors, and 29" slicks)

First get some tires. Second, remove the front swaybar, that will help the front end come up to transfer weight. Do those two things and it should help you tremendously. As for the airbags they do help, but not that much. When you really start hooking hard and the body really starts to twist bad, get a bmr drag race anti-rollbar it's the best money I've spent on the suspension and the car will launch level everytime.

Thumbs up Hoosier QTP's

I run a heads and cam car! No suspension mods whatsoever with 100K miles on the stock bottom end and suspension.

Get yourself a set of Hoosier QTP's and front skinnies!

Ya hear that SkarodoM. No set up, just motor!!!!!

well I already have the torque arm, panhard bar, lca's and anti roll bars front and rear. so seems to me I just need to adjust the torque arm some and get some good tires then. The car is basically stock at the moment so I figured it wouldnt be that hard to hook up even with regular tires. My friend had some pilot sports, 285/35/18's on but they were even worse then the stock ones as far as drag racing goes anyways. The car is an M6 that is daily driven by the way.
