The stock shortblock LS1 record has been pushed even further

Mike Brown's Collector's Edition breaks its own record

My car club, the Central Ohio F-body Association hosted it's bi-anual Norwalk track day, where we rent out Norwalk raceway. As always, we have some fast cars there.

So what did Mike run??

9.85 @ 138.12mph

Not too shaby for a stock shortblocked street car! Sadly, I had to work, so I could only see the pics and hear the stories of the day.

9.85 is a stock LS1 shortblock record??? Check out LS1 motorsports. They put a single turbo on a 100% stock LS1 and ran a 9.6X at Beech Bend at least two years ago. Of course the stock shortblock didn't like it for long and gave it up but still 9's with stock shortblock. I know of another tuner here in town running 9's with the factory bottom end as well, they just don't talk a lot.

I think you are mistaken. Rob Raymer ran a 9.86 at NFRA 2001 in Bowling Green and that was NOT on a stock LS1.

Yeah, Rob's car wasn't a stock short block. Stock short blocks won't take 20# of boost.

Just to clarify, stock short block means stock rods, pistons, crank, yadda yadda yadda, right? Got a video of the run. Love the sound of a turbo car launching.

Rob had an ARE bigger CI motor in his Z/28 at that time.

Congrats to Mike!!!!

Who knows, maybe the stock bottom end record will some day be 9.50's...

On my car club's message board, Mike did mention going w/ slightly more boost, a bigger intercooler, and less weight for next year.............
