Stock LT1 With N2O Goes 11.6s!!

I was talking with a friend of mine who had a '94 Z28 A4 car a couple of years ago. He was trying to help me get the best out of my car. He blew me away when he told me what he ran and what he had in the car. Here is a complete list of mods-

K&N CAI

Gutted Cat (converter)

Flowmaster cat-back

Hypertech Programmer

150 Wet shot with Progressive controller

That's it! Nothing else. That's about as stock as you can get as far as I'm concerned. On slicks, the car had been a best of 11.67 @ 116 with a 1.65 60ft!!! He had the stock 3.23 gears with stock stall and credits his good launch to the "loose" converter he said he had from the factory. He was able to stall the car to about 2k whereas mine only goes to about 1,3-1,5k. He did end up blowing the stock converter up eventually and said when they replaced it he got a much tighter 'verter. He said after that he went back to running 12.0-teens.

I just had to share this to see if anyone else had heard of someone going that fast with that little done. I know there are guys that have gone mid 11s with N20 and minor mods like stall/gears/header/etc., but this guys mods were pretty darn limited.

My car used to be a n2o car when my brother owned it. With Edelbrock 1-5/8" shorties, high flo cats, Moroso K&N, BFG DR's and a 150 wet shot he ran a best of 12.15@115 with a best MPH of 117.17.

Rare, but not impossible.

Yea, I think my car has the potential that your car had, like 12.0-teens if I can get my 60ft down back to 1.7s, where it was.

But mid 11s with intake, exhaust, and N2O is pretty sweet!!

it is definately possible. the more "inefficient" the engine is,the more nitrous helps.

Congrats to your friend.

I did pull off a few low 11.4's with stock manifolds/waterpump/cats but i had the 3.70's in the 9" and a small stall.

How true. Got another friend with a '90 5.0 hatch AOD. Car had Cobra upper/lower, CAI, cam, headers, full exhaust, and 4.30s. The car ran consistant 14.2s NA. On a 125 shot, he would blast to 12.2s all day!

Sounds about right. I had a 94'Z before my SS, and all it had was Moroso CAI, ported/descreened MAF, 1LE elbow, TB bypass, NGK TR-6's, Taylor wires, MSD Blaster coil, Borla ORY, 3" exhaust back to a Dynomax Race Magnum muffler w/turndown before the axle, 3.42's, and ET Streets. It may sound like alot, but most of the stuff I had was either free or cheap, but it still had stock manifolds, intake, cam, bottom end....pretty much everything! lol

Anyways, running a NX 150 wet shot, it ran a best of 11.7x @117.9 mph on a 1.75 60'. That was spraying out of the hole on the stock converter, something I wouldn't reccommend!

The wet kits are the best way to go, as they will always produce more torque, which is what's going to get you going, and then the hp takes over.

Very interesting numbers man! Thanks for sharing them with us.

My 305 engine picks up 21 MPH with it's very rich 150 shot Et reduction is on average 2.3 seconds and it'll be more with the cutout and more bottle pressure to make it less rich Wish me luck! Converter and new trans going in soon. Looking for Bottom 12's!

Thats is pretty impressive,
How often does he drive the car?
Does he have a lot of miles on it?

Just curious how long he has been running that setup.
Thanks,
Claude

Interesting

No doubt alot of his control and abiity to dropthat low came from the little used Nos controller that thing is fantastic.. especially with slicks

The converter story sound a bit wishy.. but hey i've seen dry shot Ls1 stock and i mean stock jump down into 12 flat and they were using 125 shot i beleive the max dry shot capable for thre stock fuel system

One note actually he did do 2 critical mods .. the Cold air intake and cat removal.. Nos like to have a little help and that just the kind of help it need to kick you in the pants..

outstanding time... encourage all Lt1/ LS1 to remove our cats .. on my Vette and on my Ws6 (LT1/LS1) repectivey they offered a very noticable difference.. i disregard the fact that many tuners say they don't provide much.. well i ahave a dyno on my vette before and after .. and if 30 hp isn't alot to you keep them on
