Spraying an Auto
Spraying an Auto
When spraying an auto, do you spray through the shifts?
I am wondering whether i should let off the nitrous in time for the tranny to shift then get back on it, or should i just hold the button till the end of the track?
I'll be spraying anywhere from a 100 to a 150 shot on a mild LT1 backed by a fairly built 700r4.
Any suggestions?

Re: Spraying an Auto
I have a manual spray button and always try to let off for fear of the rev limiter. I have a friend who sprayed through shifts and his car only made it about an hour away from the track before the tranny let go. Imo you should get a window switch or a manual button.
Re: Spraying an Auto
hows your ET gonna be when you light up your tires in the transition from 2nd to 3rd at 6000 RPMS hit rev limiter, shut off your fuel pump, and detonate all your cylinders and have about 3 of em come flyin out the top of your hood? ive never used nos, but there is a reason i havent.... too many horror stories... blown head gaskets, cracked heads and blocks... manifold leaks, and of course... blown motors... NOS aint worth it... but if you must run it... do it safely.. i have a friend that has his set up to give him a 50 shot in 2nd, a 100 shot in 3rd, and a 150 shot in 4th... all setup to disengage before shift point, and his car rides the strip, and the street every day... go with Zex, and make sure you put some money into it....
Re: Spraying an Auto
I'm running a 150 wet shot on my z. Stock tranny. It's better to be safe then sorry, get MSD window switch and WOT switch I spray from 3000~5800 rpms's and I have the pcm programmed to shift @ 5900-6000.
So as soom as it shifts and the rpms drop below 5800 and I'm at wot it sprays. I gained 1.28 seconds with a 150 on a stock tranny/ stock converter.
I don't recommend spraying through shifts.

Re: Spraying an Auto
run 200 in my all stock 00 formula hit it at 2k in 1st and spray through the shifts. best of 11.97 @ 118 people need to stop being a pansy about n2o. [moron voice]OOHHHH n2o is too scary for me. it blows stuff up all the time. don't want my pistons coming out the hood. or out the pan [/moron voice]
but yes. do things safely. use a window switch to make things last longer if you want.

Question: If you know that a window switch is safe and will make parts last longer, why do you spray through your shifts? I could understand taking a risk if you don't know any better but you seem quite aware that it's not a safe thing to do and yet you still spray through shifts. Just an observation, that's all.
Re: Spraying an Auto
If you are too worried about or can't afford parts breakage, then don't even use nitrous.
I run slicks and spray through the shifts for the best ET.

Re: Spraying an Auto
As said before, its simple ish, you wanna have your ish last longer dont spray through the shifts. You wanna get better ET's SPRAY IT all the waaaaaaay through. I noticed on this board alot people always whining and crying. "wa wa wa youll blow this up, wa wa wa this will break, wa wa wa wa." Well hell thats how it is with having fun with our cars. Sprayin through the shifts isnt the dumbest thing in the world, but it isnt the best for your tranny. You do what your pocket book can handle and thats how all questions of this sort should be answered.
Re: Spraying an Auto
this is my 5th car on the bottle. i don't succumb to all the psychobabble about not spraying through shifts. the 2 tranny problems i had were one, my 79 z28 converter upchucked into the tranny 175hp(non nitrous). and i wasn't on the juice. the econd one was the lockup was going out of the converter in my 86TA (OEM 2100 corvette converter) after about a year of launching with manually locking it up at 2500 rpm. never had an internal transmission failure.
i repeat the do the safe thing so no one can come to me and say "You told me not to worry about using all that safety stuff. Now i broke my car because of you."
