SPEC Stage II - Slipping at 12.68 .. WTF?
SPEC Stage II - Slipping at 12.68 .. WTF?
Just got back from the track today. Ran the car for the first time since the engine rebuild. Runs good, with good miles/hour. On the last run, the clutch started to slip. The clutch is a SPEC Stage II which I replaced when I pulled the engine. The engine has about 2000 miles of cruising / misc. miles on it from summer driving. NO HARD LAUNCHES OR DRAG RACING. I especially made sure to follow the break in instructions which came with the clutch. Today, after making about 7-8 passes with the car over a 6 hour period, I decided to make a final pass. The car ran a decent time, but the MPH was down. It felt like it was slipping. So, put it on the trailer and brought it home. Attached is my email and the reply I got from STAR about the Stage II clutch that I have in my Z28.
Anyone else having problems with the Stage II's? Heard the stories about the Stage III breaking.
Time slips -
60' - ~2.0-2.1
1/4 - 12.68-12.9
1/4 MPH - 113 MPH

Thank you for your inquiry. The Stage II should hold low 12's with no problems. Est torque capacity is 450 rear wheel. This unit should take you into the 11's.
