Shift point adj?

well my 1-2 shift is perfect(6100rpm) but my 2-3 was still off, rev. limit is at 6500 and the shift is at 6500rpm, i still took it to the track and ripped off some good times, but it felt like the motor(which is stock except full bolt ons) seems to shut off past 6300rpm, now i set my shift mph from 74 down to 70 and now it shifts (2-3) at about 6100-6200, seems to more powerful at the beginning of third opposed to the end(past 6200rpm) of second. Question is do you think i can gain more time in the 1/4 mile from this, really trying to get into the 11's with stock internals

does anyone know what a bolt on ls1 dyno numbers are at 6,100/6,200/6,300/6,400 and 6,500rpm?

i would imagine if the power diff from 6200 to 6500 is any more than a 20hp drop then my car may pick up a .1 and 1 mph in the quarter

most guys who run my 1/4 mile trap speed of 111.3 also trap an 1/8 mile time of 88.5 or better mine is 87.8

times are;

2000 auto camaro
13.54 @ 104 2.049 60' stock 2.73

12.94 @ 109 2.002 60' full exhaust, lid, tune, nitto 555r 2.73

12.279 @ 111.06 /1.740 60' /7.840 @ 87.8 mph 1/8 mile; full exhaust, lid, tune, nitto 245/50-16 555r 3.73 moser 12-bolt 2800 fuddle, ls6 intake manifold, slp under drive pully.

if i could still go to the track i would but its closed til march. just need something to look forward to

If you had a better converter you'd probably already be in the 11s.
With a lid, OR y-pipe, Loudmouth, Yank ST3500, and ET streets I went 12.15 @ 110mph.
You're already going 111+ mph so you could be running 11s on a good day with the right torque converter. 2800 aint near enough stall and Fuddles are good but not great.

What's the rpm range of your cam. At what rpm is your cam supposed to float the valves?

I'd say your rev limiter is set too low. If the engine is still pulling up to 6300, the 6500 rev limit is probably starting to get hit. Bump the rev limit up to 6800 or a couple of hundred rpm below where the valves are supposed to float.

You want to shift at or just past the engine's peak HP. It doesn't help to go past that number because the HP starts to decrease and the engine starts to make less power. When you shift, the rpm drops to where torque is used again until HP peaks for the next gear.

If geared properly, you should cross the finish line at or slightly after your highest shift point in high gear (not OD)

My car with the stock motor peaked around 5600-5800 and started to drop off hard after 5800 RPM. I've read that the best shift points for a stock LS1 is around 6100-6300 to get the best possible ET. I had both of my shifts arriving at 6100 RPM when I was running my best times.

it does have the stock cam, just bolt ons, such as headers, intake, tune, pulley, now that the car is shifting at 6200 instead of the 6500 i can feel the power sooner.

the only reason i think i will gain a .1 or so and 1 mph is because of the 1/8 mile mph i have.

if you go to drag times.com and search ls1 camaros with my setup or maybe even less power, the seem to be at 88 or 89 in the 1/8, opposed to my 87.8. the car shifts to third at 70 mph ; so if the car was previously over revving to 6500 then shifting at 74 mph, i lost time there, It takes longer for my car to accel to 6300-6500 in 2nd rather then at the begging of 3rd where it makes its peak power.

Also what about the 60' footer, mine is 1.74, and since then i have removed approx. 80lbs off the nose and 15lbs off the rear, will this get me to that 1.69 60'?,

I guess we'll see what happens at the track next year.

The weight reduction will help, no doubt, but a better converter with a higher stall rating will help more. (as mentioned)
