Removing front sway bar - worth it?
Removing front sway bar - worth it?
Question for those who have removed their front sway bars for race - did it net an actual drop in ET? I know it should help initial load/weight transfer possibly, but enough to drop any noticable difference in ET? All inquiries welcome. Tryin' to get in the 12's Friday night.

Removing the front sway bar is one of the little things that adds up. The amount of weight lost is negligible and if you have heavy front tires the weight transfer will not improve too much, but it will help. All the little stuff adds up. I took mine off years ago as it was useless to me since I drive slow on the street anyway.
I will likely wait then until doing a couple more things, like running cookie cutters up front, trunk mount battery and finally get my ac stuff off the car. Still haven't located a part number or where to get the ac delete pulley just yet or if that is a kit or what, but once I do, it's on.
I appreciate your inputs, I was hoping for a 10th, lol! I don't think my stock-wheeled car is going to muster that for tomorrow's races though, so I'll hold off for now.

I would go ahead and remove it. Like tntub said, every little thing counts. Nickel here and a nickel there adds up in the long run. It can't hurt to try. The two end links and something like 6 bolts removes the sway bar and its mounts. Very easy to reinstall if you don't like it.
ya its worth it. Like stated, remove all you seats, spare and jack, front bumper support, front sway bar. All of the following with help a little and together should be worth 1.-.2 and 1-2mph. There are many factors that will play into what really helps and what doesnt.
The first time i had mine off my weight transfer was a thousands times better. It felt like i had drap shocks and springs.

Well, I made it to the finals and placed second. Simply couldn't run the number tonight, I think I have an ignition and/or vacuum related gremlin. Car runs good and consistent for 2-3 passes, then starts to idle goofy and fall on its face hit and miss. On a 13.40 dial-in, I ran a 13.457 to get into the finals, then on a 13.45 dial, ran a 13.721 to lose by .016. My reaction time was an 0.052, and 60' times tonight were all at 2.00x. These speed density cars seem to run a bit different than my other fbodies. Anyways, I've been running drag radials since forever pretty much, and the car hooks well, but with a stock converter and crap rearend w/stock gears, that's about all it has I guess.
Weather was humid as hell this evening, but fun all the same. Thanks again for the inputs. Bar will be removed for the next race.
