Removing airbags.

Removing airbags.
If anyone can give me some help in pulling the passenger side airbag I would really appreciate it. I tried to and don't want to tear my car up getting it out. If there are some tips LMK I would appreciate it. I haven't even tried the driver side yet. Thanks Clint

I won't try to persuade you not to...I'll just ask you to reconsider if this is a street car. Okay, now that that's off my chest...
Its pretty straightforward. You'll have to to pull the a pillars, the kick panels, the dash cap, and every bolt you can see. You won't have to completely pull the dash out of the car if you can separate the a/c ducting from the dash. You'll want to lower the steering column to allow the dash some movement.
I reinstalled my passenger bag with the dash in the car, so its doable.
Good luck,
Ryan

Thanks I will get in there this week and work on it. I just thought there might have been some tricks or easier ways to do things. The is a street/strip car but very limited street use b/c I only drive when it's good weather and not at the track on the weekends which is not too often Fred told me to get a manual but I don't have a manual and I have redone motor, trans, rear, A/C and alot of little stuff so I figuered it was too late to buy a manual.

You'll be fine w/o a manual . Its pretty straight forward. One thing worth mentioning:
On the 93-96 camaro dashes, I had to remove the dash from the car and separate the airbag with the dash completely removed. I'm betting the firebird dash is more like the 97+ camaro dash (both are one piece designs). I was able to install the airbag with the '97+ camaro dash in the car.
Good luck. Take some before and after pictures of you car so we can see the slimmer and trimmer version .

One other thing, Billingsley Racing makes a new cover for the steering wheel airbag that replaces the stocker. Not sure if there’s any weight saving vs. the OEM though. Just noticed it last night when I was on his site.

I've done this mod but I decided mine would be a dedicated racer. Be patient. Take your time. It is a pain in the azz and I broke my dash getting it out. You might also want to disconnect the battery so the stupid thing has no chance of blowing up in your face. The passenger bag and bracket is quite heavy. About 25#'s or so. When it comes to weight saving every little bit counts and it is a significant piece. Running light sure feels good.
