Re: Remove Swaybar or Not?

Weight reduction is a cheep way to get a lower ET. Every 100 lbs less = 0.1 off in the 1/4. The front swaybay removal is a good start and doesn't really hurt handling, unless you're planning on running a road course (who would want do do that anyway? 1320 straight line!). My 97 Z28 was around 3500 lbs initally, now I have it down to 3335 and hope to be well under 3300 next season (still w/ full inerior & A/C). I did stuff like small battery, swaybar, no exhaust, Etc.

1997 Silver Z/28 LT1-Auto
w/ 30 th Anniversary navy blue stripes and Chrome ZR1 wheels
Kooks Long-Tubes w/ Off-Road Y-Pipe and Cut-Out (no Cats), LT4 Hot Cam, Valve Springs and Crane 1.6 Roller Rockers, GM Performance Roller Timing Chain, Holley 58mm TB, 160 degree thermo, Aeromotive Fuel Regulator, 3.73 Gears, Vigilante 9.5” 3200 stall, TCI Super 2nd Gear Servo, B&M Trans Cooler, MSD Coil and Plug Wires, K&N Air Intake, PCMforLess Performance Program, LT4 KM, Jegs H/B w/ Under-Drive, Aluminum Driveshaft, Aluminum LCAs w/ Relocation Brackets, Mickey Thompson ET slicks and a few undisclosed performance upgrades. (Best ¼ time; 12.44 @ 110.13 MPH, Nov 05 (N/A, no NO2).

It is almost impossible to post an accurate assessment of improvement unless someone has absolutely accurate data. Heck, my ET can change by .03 between rounds due to weather changes alone... To quantify an accurate assessment of improvement due to simply removal of a sway bar would take several passes to verify the improvement, with accurate engine temps, tranny temps, consistent launches and shift points, accurate weather factors, and my suspicion is that at the point where someone is removing their front sway bar most people don't have the tools necessary to accurately quantify the difference.

The bottom line is that the sway bar is simply one component in weight transfer and shocks, springs, tires and wheels, weight distribution, chassis mods, power levels, all come into play when trying to quantify a change.

All I really know is that removing it by itself cannot hurt and if the car is basically stock the amount of handling penalty is minimal for everyday street driving. Beyond that it is anybodys guess.

I agree 100% Multiple passes needed to determine improvement unless it is a dramatic change. I would think the proof on hook and weight transfer would show up in the 60' time mostly. That being said my 60' times can vary .05 from one pass to the next. M6 cars kinda behave like that I think a change of about .10 would be noticeable
