When i go to the track when do i need a helmet? What are the other possible safety regulations i will need as i get faster and faster?

 

NHRA requires a helmet at 13.99 and faster,some tracks require helmets no matter what.

best bet is to buy a rulebook from NHRA or IHRA,also check their websites,as they have some of the basics listed there.

 

All tracks are different regardless of whether their an NHRA or IHRA track, mainly due to their particular insurance coverage.

RacinLT1 is correct about the NHRA 13.99 rule, but that doesn't mean a particualr NHRA sanctioned track will make you wear one if your quicker than 13.99.

IHRA rules require everyone to wear one. But again it depends on the track whether they will make you or not.

Example: When Rockingham was an NHRA track they didn't require anyone in street class and some slower cars in foot brake class to wear one unless the car was in the 11's. When they switched to IHRA they maintained the same policy. However, during scheduled NHRA or IHRA divisional points races they made everyone follow the rules to the letter.

Best bet is to get a helmet and have it with you, especually if you plan on running at more than one track. The particular track will let you know on any given day if you have to wear it or not, which you should anyway.
