racing my vette vs. ws6

So I'm going to milan dragway on the 5th to race a co-worker. These cars are so unpredictable so I can't be sure that I'll beat him. Both cars are on street tires.

His car, 02 ws6, 6speed, 4.10's, clutch, lightweight flywheel, k&N drop in filter, corsa catback, hypertech tune. He weighs about 300lbs. He Dyno'd just under 330 rwhp.

My car, 03 vette coupe, A4, 2.73's, zo6 catback, volant intake and tuned by me. I weigh 185lbs.

I figure I have about a 300 lbs weight advantage, I know the gears are killing me but I hope he has trouble hooking. What do you guys think will be the outcome? (I wish I had a 6-speed auto)

If traction is bad then he's toast. If he can hook up then your beat. If I were a betting man I'd bet on you for the first race.

The only time that I took my 03 m6 'vette to the track was a cold poor traction day and it didn't do well.

That being said this post is in the wrong forum and I will be moving it.

Thats cool no problem. If it helps my hp tuner shows my 0-60 is around 4.6 seconds on an "easy" launch and 0-90 in 8.4 seconds. On a perfect launch I was rewarded with a 4.3 second 0-60 time. I would predict between a 12.8 and 13.1 in this cold MI weather. I agree though he needs to hook to beat me. Good luck with a 6 speed and street tires though.

vettes dont 60ft for ****. If he can cut a 1.9 or 1.8 hes going to smoke you. Your about equal for hp, he has the 4.10 advantage and the f body suspension which beats the crap out of the vetter sus. on the dragstrip. You have the weight by alot. (On a road course you would own him but thats another story)
Put it this way, in my prolly 315rwhp 95z with 3.73's i can beat my buddies 415rwhp c5 in light to light racing. The races never go past 60 or 70 which where his car would take off so i have the edge. He also has some small traction issues. But its not like hes standing there spinning either. Good luck, hope he spins.

Wait Vette's 60 ft. Is better than a Camaro though... I work at a drag track, F-bodies are terriable 60 ft time

That's gonna be the driver/setup/tires. I don't think it's as simple as saying " 'Vettes always get better 60' times" .

Solid axle is arguably the better setup for drag racing, so a well setup live axle car should out-perform an IRS car, no?!

C5's have a slight weight advantage, and given equal setups (ie: stock motor, same tranny, same gears) one would expect the 'Vette to pull ahead.

But given that your buddy has gears in his car, and a 6-speed over your auto? IF he can launch and shift, you're gonna see taillights. IMO, it's your friend's race to lose. There's not much you can do "wrong" with a stock auto. BUT, it's also pretty easy to embarrass guys who think they've got something special .

Have fun out there! Either way, you're both driving great cars!

ive never seen a good 60fts out of vette's. There suspension is designed for a road course and the rear suspension of an f body is more suited for drag. I understand you work at a track and Im not going to tell you what you have and have not seen with your own eyes.
But in my experience and from what I heard from friends(who have them), vette's dont 60ft(C5+C6). Especially stock.
You said your both on street tires, what are you both running? F1 supercars and ps2's are practically like a dr but with a stiff sidewall. So saying street tires could mean a lot of things. If your still on factory rubber and hes on bfg KD's your in big trouble.

F bodies have always been known to have a terriable 60ft, with a stock 7.5 you can maybe run M/T et streets and lanch(before the diff gives out), vettes can run drag radials or et streets and make full drops and lanch... I think the vette would be faster 60ft...

the '02 ws6 is gonna whoop on that vette as long as he can even semi-hook. All hes gotta do is peddle it outta the hole w/o smokin' the **** out of the tires and MAYBE the vette will come close to catching him at the other end.
