question about shifting

Not really sure where to post this, but i figured this was as good as any. I have a ss and it's an auto. My question is when I'm racing someone where should I start from? Should I start from drive, or start down in first and work my way up? Thanks a lot.

Leave it in drive (4th), and let it do the work. At the track, I had it in 3rd, I launched so hard, the shifter kicked back into 2nd, which reaked all sorts of havoc. Now I leave it in 4th, which can't kick down into a lower gear.

If you try to shift it yourself, odds are you'll probably bang into the limiter, which isn't good.

go through and put a full manual valve body in it or at least a stage 3 shift kit and you can manually shift it and it won't kick down on ya. and you won't hit the limiter because it shifts so fast.
