i actually had a kid in a 5 speed 96 honda civic with a muffler and some stupid taillights tell me my car was ***** because it had an auto...we proceeded to race....i got good traction, my front end shot up high enough to fit his stupid car into the front wheel well (gotta love that invisible front sway bar) and i promptly left him sitting there wondering how a "slow" auto could look soo bada$$...my car isnt that fast but to someone who goes 16s all day....im sure it probably looks pretty mean coming off the line...
to add my own 2 cents to this discussion, i love stick cars....theres something about banging gears thats just damn cool and when theyre driven right, theyre as fast or a bit faster than a stock auto tranny. at the track of course, not everybody is evan smith. It's very hard to get an M6 car moving off the line well and in my travels to the strip, my STOCK MOTOR, bolt on car has had little trouble outrunning cammed and sometimes head and cammed M6s purely because theyre difficult to drive to their potential...400 RWHP is only good if u can use it where as my .auto makes pretty good use of its 337 RWHP. plus i break less s**t.

. Some people learn the easy way, some people learn the hard way. It's always fun "teaching" Ricers the hard way!!
Me thinks it'd be alot easier to get into the 12's with an auto and a big stall than with a stick. First of all, a stock rear will live alot longer on the auto. Second, it would take one hell of a driver to run with a car that shifts almost instanteously. Third, the automatic is going to be damn consistent. It doesn't miss a shift..
I don't know if we have a list here.. but on ls1tech.com there is a top 50 list of n/a, stock heads/cam, bolton only cars in the 11's. Like 35-40 out of the 50 are Automatics. And its not because somebody is "too lazy" to shift
Its because chevys automatics kick ***. Hence why people with any real power always end up with the powerglide or turbo 400
That being said.. Who cares, I'd rather bang gears..
Cheers,
