new track times.

back from the track. Went to Texas Motorplex today. 2200 DA and about 80 degrees. Racing at night is so much better but track was open from 10 AM to 5 PM so you take what you can get.

I ran 11.41 @ 117 MPH (1.644 60 ft, 7.27 @ 94.88 1/8 mile) and eased off a lil before the end since I was worried about going faster that 11.50 and getting booted from the track for no cage. Might have been 11.35 at 118 MPH if I kept it to the floor up top.

They told me to slow it down or leave.

I made a few more passes with better 60 fts (1.60, 1.61, 1.60) and 1/8 miles results (7.21, 7.23, 7.17 @ 95.28, 95.19, 95.69 MPH) and then let off after the 1/8 mile marker. From the "internet racing" aspect, I coulda, woulda, shoulda ran some 11.30's but I do not have a 11.3x time slip since I never ran it full out in the 1/4 mile again.

As it is, I still have an 11.40 car and not an 11.30 car. I have no plans of a roll bar so that is probably the last time the car will go to the Motorplex (Only 1/4 mile track around here) since it is not much fun letting off before the end of the track.

Looks like it will be Kennedale from now on. I hope they allow 11.30/11.20 passes with no cage. I am not sure where the "roll bar" rule is at on that track.

My new trans shifts ALOT firmer than my old 82K stock one. It used to complete the shift at 6700-6800 RPM (ocasionally tagging the 7000 RPM limiter and puking fluid also, LOL) and the new trans completes the shift by 6200-6300 RPM. I need to raise the shift points higher then where they are (6100 RPM) and get an aftermarket TQ arm. After these mods, NOS is the next step. Not sure where I can run the car then since a roll bar/cage is NOT going in my car.

Nice times Lloyd! What size shot are you going to run? Are you shooting for low 10's, high 9's? Either way keep up the good work.

Nice times Lloyd. Actually, I think the 7.17 in the 1/8th would work out to a solid 11.20 run, if I'm not mistaken. Not bad for a set of LE heads.

well, with no cage I do not know where I can even run the car but I was planning on a 150 to run some 10.30's and I would be willing to use a 250 shot to see a 9.99 pass but with no cage, I would be lucky to ever see the time slip or not be escorted to the gates with no cage.

I really gotta think hard about the cage thing.

I weighed the car yesterday and it is 3760 with me in it. The 15 x 10 and 15 x 3.5 Welds with ruinners and 27 x 11.5 x 15 Hoosier QTP's dropped some weight but the 8.8 rear with 3.55 gears and posi unit added some also.

All in all, the car is 60 lbs lighter than it was last time at the track but still a heavy F body compared to most at the track.

A cage would put me back at 3820 lbs BUT at least allow me to run the car.

After experiencing having to let off at the track yesterday, i realize how much fun it is NOT. I am really gonna have to consider a bolt in cage if I keep the car because this sucks having to let off and not amke a full pass and having these "internet math" 7.20 timeslips, LOL.

Just do it Lloyd. Once you use the bottle, there's no looking back. Just say what I did. Honey, you don't want me to get hurt, do you? Who's going to pay the bills, if I do? You know this is the only thing I do for recreation, (I work A LOT) and I'm finally seeing some rewards.
Plus you could throw in what good advertisment this is. Works for me!!

Go ahead and get the roll bar in it......you will wish you had once your paralyzed and in a wheel chair when you went 110's on the roof.

Safety is #1........even a 6pt bar can be a lifesaver, get a fire jacket also. I have been inside of a car that cought fire.........a few seconds of protection is everything.

congrats on the times

I have a good fire suit and helmet from previous cars I owned.

The $$$ is not the deal nor is the wifes permission. I just did not wanna have a cage in the car since it kinda kills the 'street car" aspect but it seems that EVERY F body running fatser than 11.50 at the track is gonna have a cage also and that makes it a lil easier to swallow installing one.

Looks like a cage will be going in before the NOS.

I have a 6 point in my car, I have swingouts so I just unbolt my side and take it out when I drive it on the street. Just like getting in and out of a stock car. Since I dont use my backseats anyways I just took them out. Also I put all my panels back in so it looks a lot nicer. I actually dont even run the passenger side swingout, as a 5-point is all that is required, so that will save a few lbs.

Just thought I'd make light of the situation Lloyd. I'm not fond of the 6 point idea either in a 30k 94 that still looks good. But I want to make at least more than one pass a day before being asked to slow down or go home.

Good job Lloyd! I run what you ran in the 1/8 and I'm at 11.20s at 121ish and a 6 point CM bar is going in this winter even though I said I'd never put a bar in...If the right shop does it they can be fairly invisible...A side benefit can be lower 60's, too...

I just raised my stall to 4000 from 3600 and will be back out with a fresh trans next week...we'll see what happens...

Again, good job with that heavy pig!

The bars aren't bad if you do the bolt in side bars. But you have to be careful as the spiral effect can get you. Next thing you know it will be a gutted drag car.

eh, the cage will probably go in sometime next year.

I just hate compromising my original feelings of removing stuff but I have to draw the line at the cage.

I wanna keep the ABS, A/C, cruise control, elec seats, windows, locks, 12 disc CD changer, back seats, carpet, insulation, etc, etc.

As Tireburnin mentioned, before you know it, things are easy to menmove when the time slip keeps getting lower. Been there and done that with other cars so I have to NOT do it on this car.

The 3.55 gears and 27" tires with the overdrive trans and locked converter are awesome on the highway (2500 RPM @ 75-80 MPH) and the car is very drivable at all RPM's in any gear with this 230 duration cam.

I'll just get the cage, adjust the shift points, try and get the 60 ft's in the 1.50 range with a good TQ arm and be happy with a LOW 11 second N/A car that has all of the comforts this car has while having LOW 10 second capability on NOS.

Great times Lloyd! Glad your new tranny is working for ya! I,ve been fighting with the "cage issue" also. Not quick enough on all motor...yet...but with a better converter and a set of your heads I hope to be in the 11.70s. My NX kit is in a box in the garage, but it will eventually find its way into the car. So, safety first! Glad to see you are almost ready also Alan. Get some vids of those wheel stands!!
