launching
Only with a transbrake can you launch at full converter stall. Using a 2 step and foot braking, you can still only launch at the max rpm your vehicles brakes will hold. The benefit of a 2 step is that you can launch at the same rpm every time which can be hard to do with just your foot and watching a tach and the tree at the same time.
People have wired in the 2 step through a brake light switch. As long as the brake pedal is depressed, the 2 step engages. Foot to the floor on the throttle and other foot holding the brakes. Engine is banging off the 2 step. Let go of the brakes and the 2 step releases allowing the rpms to climb as the car launches forward.
When you step on the brake pedal while driving or slowing down the operation of the 2 step means nothing because you won't be on the throttle at the same time. A simple toggle switch can be installed to turn it off just in case when not at the track.
So without a transbrake, whatever rpm you can hold the car at with the vehicles brakes is the highest rpm you'll be able to use the 2 step.

i use my dis-4 (because I also need to retard my timing for nitrous). you can wire it up several different ways. clutch pedal works, but isn't ideal... you can't slip the clutch very well if you wire it into the safety switch.
At the moment, I rewired my cruise control switch so that the reset button on the cruise control activates the two step. I let go of the button/clutch at the same time and don't even have to move my hand off of the steering wheel.

Don't use the clutch safety switch, it's at the bottom of the travel. Use the clutch cruise control disengage switch, it's at the top of the travel.
