Post New best! (video inside)

Improved my best time by over 2/10ths today. Happily I caught it on tape:

http://members.***.net/rjohnston11/new_best_1227.mpg

Previous best was a 12.48@110 (but I usually run 12.7s and 12.8s). Today I ran a 12.27@112, a 12.29@112 and a few 12.3s.

What changed? ET Streets vs. BFG DRs and better valvesprings. Oh...and today's best was in the middle of the afternoon (about 82 degrees) vs. the previous best set in the upper 40s. (Think I might be able to squeak an 11 with faster shifting and cooler weather?)

I'm really happy about the improvement. And my car can still easily pass IM240 emissions with the sniffer friendly 224/230/114 cam

Thumbs up

Nice vid and congrats on the new best!

Whats your 60' on those runs? I could only manage high 11's @120-121 mph on my setup in 90+ weather. My 60's were only 1.90's. I think with the mph i should be mid to low 11's.

What kinda exhaust setup you running it sounds good.

Thanks, Travis. The 60 on that run was a 1.69. Two passes later I ran a 12.29 with a 1.71. You would definitely get deep into the 11s if you could get a better short time. I'd highly recommend ET Streets for that.

The exhaust is a custom set-up fabricated at Mufflex's shop on the car. Hooker LTs into a 2-1/2" stainless y-pipe into a 3"x17" Dynomax bullet into a 3" Borla XR-1 oval muffler. It's actually very mellow and quiet on the street.

Thanks,
Rich

Those are nice times and a cool video. What cam were you running before the xe comp 230 u are running now? Did you notice a big improvement? I am running the Hotcam and contemplating going with that cam. My car runs 12.5's with 3.42 's in the heat so I am expecting 12.20's with 3.73's and cooler air but I have an auto. Just trying to figure out if a cam swap is worth it or not. Later

Thanks for the compliments

I don't think a HOT cam is much different from what I have. Both are good for about 360-370 rwhp. I've got a friend who runs about the same times with a HOT cam (12.2@112) and an M6. If you want a meaningful power increase and want a comp cams xtreme, I'd go to at least a 224/236.

i get similar mph with my car and im wondering how far i can push my luck with my street twin, 12 bolt and et streets and stock torque arm

Let 'er rip!!

sideways- i wouldnt worry about the stock torque arm till you get down to a 1.6x 60'. if your running an aluminum driveshaft, thats more of a worry than the torque arm. the stock steel one is stronger than a LS1 shaft.
heat those et's up, and dump the clutch from 4500 or so and you should be grinning ear to ear.

~5500 rpm launch with no slip.

Denny's driveshaft and a BMR torque arm (my mod list is in the link below)

I broke two stock torque arms last year with 4000 rpm launches and then went to the BMR. I don't think my experience is typical, though it seems to be more common with Moser 12 bolts for some reason.
