New best for Jason Warren

Finally made it down to Beech Bend over the weekend, the car got a fresh alternator with hopes it cured the missing problem from last fall. The car went a 9.37@143 first pass with a 1.34 60 (5.94@115 1/8). We added one link to the travel limiters, leaned out the nitrous a little and the second pass the car came out real hard-damn near on the bumper-and the net result was a 9.32@144.7(5.92@117.8) with a 1.33 60.

The car definitely benefited from the alternator, but still has a miss at high rpm. Were thinking the opti spark has crapped out. We didnt want to push our luck, decided to call it a night from there. The car is damn consistent, and were happy about that.

Jason is getting ready to start building a home, so hes not sure when the car will be back out again. No 8's for now....

Wheelie bars are for pussies..

355 LT1, Factory crank, factory fuel injection w/30 lb injectors, tuning via LT1 edit by Jason, Trick Flow new style heads, 300 shot TNT nitrous, TH400 on the brake, 4.11 gears, 29.5X10.5 ET Drags..

Everything on this car was put together by Jason and myself. And yes..a lot of blood, sweat and tears have been invested along the way.

Thanks for the replies fellas! I thought Jason was done for the year, but he is talking about purchasing a new opti-spark to replace the factory unit. We were thinking about the MSD, but I need to research it more. Any thoughts?

And the 3 speed TH400 Tranny, and I think he forgot to mention the forged bottom end minus crank, and cam and etc and etc.

So far everything I've seen on the MSD Opti is positive, but I am still not sold on it yet. I have a new GMPP unit for now, but have been looking at them, reading about them , and asking a few ppl about them. Everything is positive that I've seen.

The engine has Eagle H beam rods, Ross pistons, and the cam -while solid roller- isnt very radical.

Far as I know, I dont think anyone else has been able to put up numbers like Jasons car utilizing factory (GM) fuel injection, and that small of a motor.

Thanks for the input on the MSD. I think its either going to be the MSD or the dynaspark. Jason needs something that will hold up to higher RPMs.

I havent told him about the 500-600 dollar range of pricing yet though..

Hopefully we will make it back out again this year!

You guys should try and get a group purchase going on the MSDs. I am sure there are several people would would like to upgrade as well.

Very nice times. My vote goes for the Dynaspark opti also.

I was talking to Jason earlier tonight about distributor choices. He was really surprised that dynaspark has been around for a while and he hasnt ever heard of them. As of now-he is thinking that the MSD unit is going to be the best bet. He likes the fact you have timing adjustments on the distributor. He was checking out the dynaspark website as well. One thing I think we both have decided is its not getting another factory unit...that thing just doesnt seem to hold up to RPMs above 6200... He really thinks that its pretty irrelevant cost wise to worry about 75 dollar difference between the dyna and msd. Wish I knew more people that had them!
