New Best for Bolt on car

Will update with the DA tomorrow but it was alot warmer and more humid than before.

1.78/8.18@85 no belt on this pass.

previous was 1.75/8.21@81 but at a different track, ETs are normally comparable but the MPH has always been different.

I took out the carpet and interior panels and the radio/speakers. Needless to say the carpet will be going back in and the panels. Radio might even go back in...just too ghetto without the carpet/panels.

Next step is K-member/a-arms/QA1 shocks/springs. along with relocation brackets, it has not dead hooked yet, which is OK since it has a 'stock' clutch...

Nice times, but what does that come out to in 1/4 mile???

I thought bolt-on was a "no moded, daily driven, street car", not a full out gutted drag car. Your times are impressive but its hard to compare apples to apples when you have street cars vs; drag cars. A/C, power windows vs; no interior bucket seat racing.

Re: New Best for Bolt on car

1/4 from what others say is just a 12.7 or so....

I still have power everything, A/C, power steering.

bolt on car is bolt ons, daily driven is not a criteria, and I can drive this car anywhere.

I did pull the carpet and interior panels at the rear seats and hatch but that all is going back in so critics like some on here are not offended...
The A/C probably will come out of the car and that was an option for the Z28s so that is still "legal".

What is impressive is that the only Horsepower added stuff is the CAI, Muffler, and tune.

Re: New Best for Bolt on car

Shon, what track was that at? Just curious, because there is a track around here that does trap a bit higher than O'burg, but the e.t. is usually dead on. Was this pass different from the previous best due to no belt? I was wondering what kind of gain there is from not running the belt?

This pass was at Ware Shoals and the other was Greer.
the belt removal is worth a tenth on this car.
Belt was removed on all the new best that I have mentioned for this car...

Re: New Best for Bolt on car

UPDATE:
Got the call at 8ish,

1.76/8.111@84.6

This had the carpet in it and all panels and no belt. Didnt get to make another pass due to oilage/breakage.

Can it go 7.99 with just weight removal!?

All I know is, I'm not running again until it cools down...the humidity got back up to 84% by the time I made my second pass

Re: New Best for Bolt on car

I was thinking of maybe removing my belt at the track as well to try and pull my car into the 12's as it sits. How long can I expect the battery to last with the belt off? I dont wanna end up having the car die in the staging lanes or something. (that actually happened to me before, when I was having battery problems, but they are fixed now) What do you think it is worth in the quarter mile?

Dont know officially but guess would be in the 3500 range. But have not had it scaled. At the time of those runs the bumper supports were gone, the Radio/speakers, front sway bar, sound deadening from carpet, some of the black rubber stuff on the fire wall, that is about it for weight reduction....

It is a tenth in the 1/8 so at least that much in the 1/4. I personally do not like no belt but Russ does so he drives it like that. We push the car alot thru the lines with no belt....

Good job man.. Still using that strange 12 bolt? What happened to the BMR setup, etc? I definately can see over a tenth improvement with the weight loss. You got slicks/skinnies yet?

I actually sold that 12 bolt I got from you to a buddy of mine that is enjoying it pretty well, once he got the studs replaced and the diff sorted out!! It was going to take a lot to get it to work in my LT1 set up and he had all LS1 running gear so I sold it to him.

K-member/A-arms/QA1s are going in now along with some other stuff going on and coming off/out.

I run on Warriors with ET Streets right now, they seem to be working so we'll keep it going, later I might need a lighter wheel combo, these are fairly heavy....

Re: New Best for Bolt on car

Have you considered more gear?

My 96 impala SS has run a best of 1.709/8.188@82.66 weighing in a lot more and probably making a good bit less power. More gear would help get you out of the hole better which drops ET a BUNCH.

OH YEAH! Will probably switch to a spool and 4.33s later this year. Been looking at 4.56s but with a 26" tall tire that is just too much RPM for a stock motor with 132k miles on it.

I think in the 1/8th with 4.56/26 and guessing a tad bit over 85MPH it would be zinging to 6500+ in 3rd. And in the 1/4 it is still close to 6500+ in 4th, those numbers might be too low but either way, not sure if it is best to gear the car to have to shift to 4th in the 1/8th and pull in at say 4600-5000 or leave it in 3rd and get a gear that works...

Taller tires with more gear is one of the last things I want to do right now. I got new ET Streets so getting rid of them is not what I want to do...
