Need opinions!

Need opinions!
I'm getting ready to install a new 4500 converter to take the place of my current 4000. I plan on making a few test pass afterwards to see if I pickup anything. I was wondering if installing a set of 4.88 gears and a pair of 30x9x15 Hoosier radial slicks would pick me up over my current 4.11/ 27x11.5x15 QTP's. I don't have any problem hooking now, but everybody keeps telling me that the 4.88/30in tire combo will make a difference and I don't now what to do.

Re: Need opinions!
you may run into a clearance problem. I am running Hoosier 29x10x15 and I still had to cut from the plastic and roll the wheel wells. I am also running a 4.88 gear and have thought about getting the 30's under there as I have seen many stockers running a taller tire with either 4.88 or 5.13 gears

Re: Need opinions!
I test fitted a pair of my buddies 30in tires and I think all I would have to do is trim the bumper cover alittle more. I would love the 4.88/30in combo on the car, but only if I can see a gain in performance. I'll have to get in touch with some of my friends that run stock eliminator and H/crate motor and see what they say, if I didn't already know.

Re: Need opinions!
It would probably help as long as you turn your engine up to 6800-7000. I don't know why but my car always ran well with high gears. I went from 3.42's/26" tires and the car ran 120mph in the 1/4. Then I put some 28" Drag Radials, same gears and fiquered the car would slow down a bunch but it still ran 11.40@119mph in worse weather conditions. I will try running a little more gear (3.73's) with my new setup next month or so. Later Clint

Re: Need opinions!
Well I guess I'm going to do it. I order the gears, tires, and a new set of wheels, and I'll let everybody know what it does as soon as I get it to the track.

Hey Mac! It's good hear from you. I've got everything installed yesterday and now just have to wait to get to the track. I was amazed at how easy it was to fit the 30in tires, all I had to do was cut about 2in off of the bumper cover and fender. The tire has at least 3/4 of an inch at it's closest point, and the guys that I know that run these radials say that they don't grow so I should be in good shape. I keep everyone posted after I get to the track.
