Im having a similar problem... its really making me angry, cause I really dont like seeing my tach read over 5500rpm. Im just like you, Ill never miss a gear if im just cruising, but as soon as I do a WOT blast I miss a gear probably 40% of the time. Im half blaming my shifter though, since I never had a problem with my stock unit.

Are you dropping to second like me on the 3-4?

I realize that all I should have to do is pull the shifter back for the 3-4 shift, but somehow it still falls into second sometimes

Do that and make sure that your elbow is off of you side so that your arm is parallel to the console and parallel to the floor. That way when you pull back you don't try to pull it towards you.

Yea, you definitely should sit in your normal position for WOT runs and then notice the placement of your elbow. Although this sounds stupid, you probably just have nerves that are making you subconsciously pull the shifter straight at you.

When i shift hard i place my hand at the bottom of the shifter to make sure that i have a good grip on it and that hass helped me alot from missing second and fourth try that it may help.

You might want to get an aftermarket shifter.A lot of people like the Pro 5.0.I have the Hurst, which I like.B&M Ripper is another.

yeah i think your right Tair .... this was my first time to ever race a standard at all ...... i think it was just nerves or something to that effect ......those are all good suggestions and i think it should work ..... i will hit 4th gear next time hopefully putting me somewhere in the 13s (13.8 and ill be happy lol ) then i can work on it from there ..... someone suggested running around 22 pounds of air in my street tires to lower my 60 foot .. and i feel like my cutout is killing me on the low end ... of course i havent seen how much it helps on the top end really cause i havent made it into 4th yet lol

thanks guys ..any other suggestions will be appreciated

You're getting too excited !! ( Been there !! ) Take it easy and granny shift it until you get used to it !! A slow 4th gear is better than NO 4th gear !!

It may sound kind of wierd, but try the 3-4 shift with your hand upside down.

After the 2-3 shift, turn your hand so that your pinky is at the top of the shifter handle, your index finger at the bottom....your knuckles are facing you and your palm is facing the passenger's side. When you shift pull the shifter back, 3-4 and you'll be A LOT less likely to hit 2nd.

Give it a shot, it may work for you.

Get a short stick/shifter of some kind. It makes a world of difference. Two trips to the track ago I made 4 passes and missed a total of 3 gears (one run I missed 2nd and 4th on the same run, retarded, huh?). I installed a short stick a couple of weeks later and went back to the track. I made 5 passes and missed no gears at all. The stock stick is GARBAGE!

Oh, and you're nervous, too. That was part of my problem as well.
