NA Stock Internal LS1 goes 10s!
Yesterday my buddy Keith from HPTuners took his extraordinarily LIGHT F-Body out to US41 Dragway and became the FIRST EVER to run a 100% COMPLETELY STOCK INTERNAL, NATURALLY ASPIRATED LS1 into the 10s.
Car is a 1997 Firebird... was originally a V6, he dropped the LS1 in it.
It weighs about 2900 pounds with driver (roughly 650lbs removed from the car).
Car makes about 350hp at the rear wheels.
He ran 11.002, then 11.001, then 11.000
And finally, 3 minutes before the track was going to close....
10.987 @ 119.31
Here's the pictures from the day...

(you can see how gutted the car is, hehe)
Tony from Straightline Performance got the 10.987 run on video too!

Re: NA Stock Internal LS1 goes 10s!
That's pretty cool!
I'd really like to know where all that weight came from, it's gotta be one of the lightest 4th gens I've heard of, and there are still things in-tact that all logic would have said would be gone due to the looooow weight.

Re: NA Stock Internal LS1 goes 10s!
We can put back interior panels and stuff like that and it's only like 75 lbs, the difference between being a gutted shell and having a full interior is not that big.
Re: NA Stock Internal LS1 goes 10s!
Impressive, I guess. I really dont get this whole bolt on thing, its just a matter of numbers. Any mathematician could pretty much say x car is gonna run x ET with x amount of rwhp at x weight.
The only variable is traction and how much weight you are willing to take out.

Re: NA Stock Internal LS1 goes 10s!
He drove the car to work everyday when it was nice out. He has an x pipe setup that he runs on the street. I think if he put 100 lbs back in, which would cover the interior stuff for the most part, and then threw on some fresh LS6 springs, the car would still run 10's cuz he would be able to buzz the car up to 6500 and it would pull a bit more.
Re: NA Stock Internal LS1 goes 10s!
I sure hope so, I've gutted mine quite a bit in hopes to lower the previous 3750lb raceweight, but honestly I can only see about 200-250lbs removed at most. This is with a chromemoly rollbar as well.
Re: NA Stock Internal LS1 goes 10s!
I copy/pasted a weight reduction thread from James12secv6 over at www.firebirdv6.com he is pretty crazy with weight reduction He has a "full interior"
well looks like it but carpet, panels, headliner, but he doesn't have passenger or rear seats

I've been researching it here and there.
Some are weight reduction and some are transfer and some are both
Weight reduction:
1) My jack and spare tire came out and a AAA plus card went in its place.
2) front sway bar, bolts and endlinks came off for 12 lbs
3) rear seats both came out plus the rear seat belts
4) front passenger seat has come out before 36 lbs?
5) thing that covers the trunk, gone, 1-2 lbs?
6)empty washer fluid resevoir, hey I do it
7) light weight a arms, 7.5 lbs each
8) light weight k member, 18 lbs
9) manual steering unit, 10.5 lbs
10) fiberglass hood (I'm told amost 30 lbs)
11) front bumper supports (I'm told 30-40 lbs?)
12) rear bumper supports (I'm told 20-30 lbs?)
13) weld drag lites for the front (15 x 3.5 rims with 175 80 tires weighing in at 26 lbs each)
14) 1 piece driveshaft (maybe 5 lbs?)
15) 2 seperate vibration dampening devices, one on torque arm (doughnut shaped) and one on the end of the tranny (just plain funky looking)
Weight transfer:
1) Both my amps and capictor are mounted in the trunk on the wall where you access the rear tail light assemblies.
2) No stb
3) 10 inch sub mounted in thunderform enclosure
I've done all of the above except for the hood and bumper supports.
I've got a weight reduction list from ls1.com
Let me find itThis is from the legend the colonel from ls1.com
Let's go on a diet...
(BTW, I have done nowhere near all of these ideas myself.)
Feel free to make suggestions and to add guesstimations or factual info as to how much weight any of the ideas remove. I'll add that info to the list.

Re: NA Stock Internal LS1 goes 10s!
For what its worth my 94 weighed ~3200 on average best of I think 3160.
I pulled the interior to clean it and for a heads up race with a guy that we are very even but he added soem mods. I weighed the car afterwards and it was 3020.
That was with more gas then I usally race with.
I pulled rear sail covers, all carpet, all seats and centerconsole.
