My first time at the track.

I got 4 runs my best was 13.4 with a 60' @1.88,but my reaction time was slow at 1.1 what is a good r/t time and what is my car capable of with a good r/t.But anyways not bad for just a lid and cb everything else stock there were guys coming up to me saying they could'nt beleive I was running 13.4 with just a lid and cb. What mod should be next I would like to get down to 12.9's thanks guys.

Re: My first time at the track.

auto or 6 speed? that is very good for first time. what kinda tires were you running because that 60' is pretty damn good!!! thats pretty fast for those mods but im very impressed with the 60' especially for your first time. however your reaction time doesnt count towards anythign. you can sit at the tree with the light green for 5 seconds then takeoff and you will get the same E/T as you would if you did a .5 R/T. your E/T doesnt start counting until your car gets out of the "staged" position. very nice! id say your car is doing everything it should and more.

Re: My first time at the track.

I'm also curious if you are an A4 or an M6. Also, were these runs done on street tires? You have a very nice sixty foot time.

do headers. one guy i talked to ran a 13.1 with stock tires and an A4 LS1, it had an SLP y-pipe on stock manifolds and a loudmouth.

Re: My first time at the track.

What was your trap speed?? I can't believe that 60' either! My best ever was a 1.92, and that was with my 4.10 gears!!

My recommendation if you want to hit 12's and not f**k around, is get a converter. Look at my best time with 4.10's. I still can't hit 12's either!?! (close, so close, but not quite).

Good stuff.

Re: My first time at the track.

I believe it was 104.87mp, but honestly my 60' was 1.88 it's right on the printout time slip.

Re: My first time at the track.

a stall as mentioned before will put you into the 12's. Provided you have traction. Other than that some long tube headers will give you similar gains. Either one should do it but the converter is a safer bet.

Re: My first time at the track.

A stall converter IS THAT THE SAME THING AS A TORQUE CONVERTER?Because my car is a A4 if thats what I need then I'll do it I really want 12's.Which is a good one for a converter what do you recommend?

Re: My first time at the track.

Yes, the stall "converter" is referring to the torque converter. All converters (even stock) have a "stall speed", but aftermarket performance converters just have much higher stall speeds than stock (typically ~2500 RPM + ) compared to the stock converter which stalls around ~1650 RPM.

For your LS1 which has a very high torque peak, you'd really benefit from at least a 3000, or maybe 3200 stall. Lots of guys run even 3500 - 3600 stalls on the street, and even daily driven, with no problems. But if you do so, make sure and get a tranny cooler installed at the same time (high stalls build more heat, and heat = for any automatic!)

Vigilante, Yank, TCI, Fuddle racing ... these seem to be the popular brands for stalls for F-bodies. Search around and check out peoples' signatures to see what guys are running and HOW they're running .

Re: My first time at the track.

the converter "stalls" until the RPM it is referred to like 3200, well my understanding is it the converter isnt fully engauging the power of the engine until 3200, which by that time the engine is making more power that at 1600 or so. thats how i always thought of it, but i have a 6 speed so what do i know anyways a 3200 stall and long tubes would get that thing cranking.

Re: My first time at the track.

So would a 3200 converter be a good choice for street and strip who makes a good 3200 converter I can,t seem to find a 3200 only 3500 is there a big difference between the two?
