M/T: ET Street vs. ET Drag vs. Drag Radial

I ran 16 x 10.5" ET Streets on my last setup, and they worked well for me, but I've heard of the M/T Drag Radial out-hooking the ET Street.

I'll be running 16" wheels again, funds don't allow me to get a set of Pro Stars right now along with the other stuff I have to buy.

I'm even considering an ET Drag, although it would suck to change out at the track as I can drive the very short distance to the track on ET Street or the DR.

You *have* to run tubes with the Drag also right?

i dont think you have to run tubes, but everyone ive seen try them without tubes ends up with flat tires all the time, im trying to decide between the 2 as well, i think im going drag radials just because there a little more streetable, or at least they seem like they would be

I didn't run tubes on my ET Streets and was OK.

New setup in question will be behind a 3800 stall Vigilante, pushed by 4.11's.

I've had the 26x11.5x15 et streets and now have the 275/50/15 et radials. Best ever 60 on the regular streets was 1.66 best on the radials has been 1.57nothing else changed to the car. And the best 60 with the window switch dropped has been 1.53. With the radials there is no big end sway you get with the et streets. They are a touch better in the rain but not much. Plus I'm pretty sure the radials are cheaper then the regular et streets, or they were for me at least.

Does anyone know the weight difference between the 16 x 10.5 ET street and the MT 275 x 50 x 15 DR?

Damn David that was fast. So now my question is, if you have a 20lb. difference in rotating mass is it still worth it to go with the MT DR's for a .10 second reduction in the your 60ft. time. Reason being, I have read for every lb. of rotating mass you can loss is like taking 4 to 5 lbs. out off the car. So whats better? I think I know the answer but would like to hear some opinions. And I'm sorry if this is taking the thread a little off topic.

you also have to add the weight of the tubes though, assuming you choose to run them, they are recomended but as some have said you dont always need them, and im not sure how much they weigh

and i always thought the et streets had alot better traction, more of a race tire less street, where the radial was designed more with the street in mind, plus the et street is a 2 ply wrinkle wall, if i didnt drive on the street alot id probably go with the ets but i do, so its radials for me

I have a "cam only" LS1 car with a 4600 stall and 3:42 gears. My 60ft dropped from low 1.5's to mid 1.4's when I went from 16" 26"tall ET streets to the 275/50/15 ET DR's. I also screwed the rims when I went to the drag radials. I pulled a best 60 ft of 1.43 on the drag radials, average was 1.45 to 1.48. I just switched to ET drags with no tubes, they do leak air slowly. My 60 ft times went back up to 1.49 to 1.52. I think the main reason is because the Drags are taller. Even though they are 26x10x15's, they appeared to be about an 1&1/2 taller. I looked at some old time slips, even with a little tire spin with DR's my ET was still better than the drags with the same 60 ft. I bought the drags because of traction issues when track prep wasnt up to par. I think I'll go back to radials, the drags are costing me about a tenth in ET on an 1/8 mile track

Another vote for ET Radials...They ride very nice and I go 1.55 to 60' with them all day long..Many others have gone 1.30s around here with them...The best sleeper set up are the 255 50 R16s on the stock 16x8s...I went 1.55s with that set up, too...Spent $$$$$ on Bogarts and 275 50 R15s and went.....1.55... Either way the Radial is the way to go...
