Launching and shifting ?'s
Launching and shifting ?'s
What rpm should i launch at with street tires? Drag radials?
What rpm should i shift at?
Is there a way i can put a shift light without the big tach i want to put the light where all my guages are in the upper right corner?
Any info on teqnique(sp) would be helpful on shifting or launching?
thanx- Chris

My shift light is mounted on top of the dash and secured with Velcro to the pillar.
Launching take spractice. Street tires, 24 pounds in the rears, 35-40 pounds in the fronts, launch between 1200-1400 with the revs going up and slip step the clutch quickly, but not so fast you "dump" the clutch, and time it so your foot is in motion when the last yellow light is completely on. It will take some practice to get it down. If you spin play with your launch rpms and tire pressure.
Shifting just try and shift as quickly as possible to get the feel of shifting fast. This will take many runs and much practice until you are totally consistent. The 2-3 shift os the toughest. Later you can learn how to powershift, but to start just shift quickly.
I would shoft between 5400 and 5600 to start. Your vehicle is stock and as I recall my best ET's came at 5600-5800, but I started at 5400-5600 until I got the hang of it so I didn't risk hitting the rev limiter.
Don't worry about ET or reaction times. Those will improve with practice. Focus on not spinning the tires and not missing shifts, and having a great time.
