Launching a 6spd...

I raced a semi-built WRX, who "says" he didn't spray, 3 times and he beat me every time...but only because he beat me off the line. Now i know that he has the advantage with the AWD but my car kind of bogged down off the line, and it wasn't because of the traction control because i tried it with low RPMs and about 1500 and the higher ones i know the TCS kicked in...What are some techniques i can try next time that will get me out of the hole faster??? Should i try to take off without the traction control??? thanks!!!

Leave the TCS off and quickly slip the clutch from about 3K RPM. You may spin a little, but it shouldn't be much. By slipping the clutch I mean VERY rapidly let off the pedal, but don't sidestep it and shock the tires too hard. You can experiment around, but this is what works best for me on the street. On a prepped track I launch from 3.5K-4K RPM, always slipping the clutch a little. Don't ride the clutch though, because it'll heat up and you'll kill it in no time. Good luck!

yes leave it off all the time it doesnt help in drag racing AT ALL... so dont think of it as an advantage because its not it only hurts your times

Re: Launching a 6spd...

Drag Radials will also help a lot. I used to launch a bit lower than 3000, more like 2000 and time the launch so I was revving up and quickly slipping the clutch... Very quickly slipping the clutch... I could time the upswing in rpms to the third light to help get a better light. It was quite difficult to do successfully but lots of practice really helped me. The drag radials were also extremely helpful.

Yea I have had some pretty good luck with starting around 2 grand and then slipping the clutch at around 3 grand. Best 60ft so far is a 2.21 on crappy 245/50/16 brand-x tires. Hopefully getting some Nittos soon and looking for some 2.0 60fts.
