How much power can you make N/A and still pass emissions?
How much power can you make N/A and still pass emissions?
I have a pretty old heads/cam package (5 yrs.) and am looking to upgrade. Unfortunately, I need to be concerned about emissions so I'm wondering how far I can go while passing the sniffer test.
I currrently have an ARE heads/gm846 setup along with SLP shorties and 3200 converter. The car is still full weight (3660-3680 raceweight) and I really don't want to remove too much of the creature comforts. The car has run pretty consistent 12.0s in the summer and 11.8s in good air over the past couple years.
I'm ready for a change and would like some ideas. What are you guys running with your setups and what kind of setups do you have? I've heard that with more cubes you can get away with a little more cam while still passing emissions.

Re: How much power can you make N/A and still pass emissions?
I have to pass emissions where I am also. I currently have a LE2 package with an "emission" cam. I haven't had it tested yet though only installed last weekend. If I was to do it again I think I'd be going forced induction. It seems like alot of cash but if I add up what I have into this package I'd bet its close to the same.

Forced induction sounds cool but it really isn't good for a stock bottom end...ask me how I know
. I still have my procharger sitting in my closet after all these years. Maybe one day I'll build the bottom end up to accept it.
