How much do our cars weigh stock?
Does anyone know how much our cars weigh stock? I have quite a bit of stuff removed and my raceweight is 3330 without me. Does that sound right? I was hoping to be in the mid to high 3200's.
My car bone stock with subframes weighed in at 3480 lbs without driver. I have since removed AC, PS, PB, ABS, back seats, replaced front seats with lightweight race seats (12lbs ea.), weld draglite 15x3.5 front wheels, aluminum driveshaft, weld draglite 15x10 rear wheels, no front sway bar, tubular k-member and a-arms, front and rear bumper supports, spare and jack, sun visors, seats belts, and a lot of little brackets, etc. I also put in a full chromoly cage, 9" ford rear with 35 spline axels, 1 gal fuel cell, fuel pump for nitrous, 15 lb nitrous bottle, and a th400. My new weight is 3350 without me in it (1/4 tank of gas). I added a total of 50 lbs with the fuel cell/nitrous install. I weigh 260 without the helmet and safety equiptment so my raceweight is now over 3600 lbs. Our cars are too damn heavy. I wanted to get down to 3200lbs with driver but there is no way I can remove another 400lbs without turning my car into a tin can.

Third and fourth gens are very heavy. That's one of the reasons Mustangs can beat them. The Ford cars are much lighter so they start with a big weight advantage.
Depending of the options the car came with, they're usually in that 3400 - 3600 pound range for just the car, no driver.
My car is stripped right down for racing only. Race weight is how much the car weighs going down the track, driver, fuel, etc. Mine needs to be reweighed after I yanked out the TH400 and installed a Powerglide but a very close estimate of my race weight is now 3140. It was around 3200 with the TH400 and the homemade crossmember was heavy.
It's hard to keep a third or fourth gen streetable or retaining a stock appearance and getting the race weight below 3300 pounds.
I'd love to get my race weight down to 2800 pounds but there just isn't anything else to remove. Now it needs things like fiberglass doors, aluminum heads, tubular front crossmember, etc to bring the weight down a lot. Everything that's expensive.

As my 87 sits now, it's at 3230 as it goes down track. This is after adding 105 lbs to get there. Stockers must retain a stock appearance inside and out. There's a couple 3rd gen Camaros in G/SA which calls for a minimum wt of 3005 lbs. Take out the driver allowance of 170 lbs and that will give you the approx wt of the car itself, though not every driver hits the scales at 170 which is why it's only approximate.
