how does this happen?

my friend ran his LT1 today. first run he messed up and let off way before the line (this was a practice run):
R/T: .4xx
60': 2.09
1/8: 9.0s @74mph
1/4: 15.01 @71mph

second run didnt get off the line well:
R/T: .5xx
60': 2.30
1/8: 9.5 @73 mph
1/4: 14.8s @94 mph

the first run he thought he had passed the 1/4 mark and actually braked til he saw the line and smashed it again. second run was better, but he still only ran .2 faster... the first time he didnt launch it just stepped on it. 2nd time he tried to launch his auto at 2000 rpm using the brakes, could this have caused the slower time?

Its quite likely, his 60 ft sucked the second time. It went up .21. If he had completed his first run properly it would easily have been 14.5 or lower.

What slower time? The 1/8 mile # ? The 60ft. time?

because i mean the first time he laid on the brakes the second time was a rougher start, but shouldnt he have done alot better than a 14.8?

Not with that kind of 60 ft. time. With a 2.00 60ft. he could easily run a 14.30. Even with street tires, and with a little practice 2.00 60ft. times are possable.

His sixty foot times could use some work. Also, track conditions can play a role. Does he have any mods done to this car or is it all stock?

well, we found the problem with a miss he was havin.. since we didnt drop anything when we re-did the plug wires, and plugged the boots onto the plugs from the top, he had the boot for the #6 plug on a manifold bolt..causing a miss and obvious arching.. so he ran a 14.8 on 7 cylinders.. what should we expect on all 8? could we be lookin 13s with full MSD, exhaust, intake, shift kit, take the sway bar off, and run slicks?

A healthy car with those mods should be more then capable of doing 13s.

it runs healthy... little exhaust leak coming from a bad manifold gasket, but only has 84k on engine and maybe 5k on rebuilt tranny, so we'll see

I would get that fixed, unmetered air that is entering can cause issues as well and result in some power loss.

It's a pain in the ***, but yeah, you need to fix that.

ok.... we made 2 more passes yesterday...

1st run was completely the way he would drive it (no slicks, sway bar on, etc.)
R/T .275
60' 2.106
330 5.835
1/8 8.919 @ 80.74mph

1000' 11.59
1/4 13.825 @ 100mph

2nd run was a big mistake... we put some slicks on that we now know are junk.. he went thru the water box, did a good burnout, but they didnt even get hot. he spun through the 1/8. you know something was wrong cuz he ran 18.331 @ 82mph.. its a good thing the sway bar was still on cuz he wouldve lost it when the wheels broke loose. he was sideways down the whole track..
