How can I get low 12's ?????

My car is a 79 Camaro with the following:

383 (cast pistons)
Performer RPM heads/intake/cam (234/244 480-510)
3.73:1 gears
TH350 w/2800 stall converter
600 CFM carb
BFG Radials (the cheap ones)

I currently run 13.1's at 104 with typically a 1.95 'ish 60'

The car is apart now and ready for mods. This what I intend to do:

800 CFM Edlebrock Carb
10" converter
ET Streets

What are your thoughts on the following additional items?:

100 hp NOS
Port heads

Any other thoughts ?

Thanks!

Bigger carb, good.
Higher stall converter, good.
Stick tires, good. ET drags would be better on some track only rims.

NOS, that would do it.
Porting heads, always. Don't forget bigger valves.

Suggestions? Bigger cam. Something around .550 lift and 250-260 duration @ .050"

I had a 383 with cast pistons. It ran high 13's. I installed some camel heads ported out with bigger valves and swapped the 700R4 tranny for a TH350 with a 10" 3800 stall converter. First pass I ran 12.1. All the specs for my old 383 are still on my web pages

I saw your picts ... Ouch!!!

You stated that it exploded at 6500 RPM ... how often did you run it that high? I probably have 100 trips down the track with the same short block, but I never let it go past 5500 (intentionally). I hope I don't get the same results. Maybe while the engine is out, I should invest in some forged pistons and some decent rods.
