Post Hooking...........!!!!!!!!!!

I am getting ready to run a stock 01 lightning in my town and I cant get my car to hook to save my life! I have a 99 trans am,a4,3.23's, with a lid and K&N. I will spin from idle all the way through 1st with a half throttle punch then flooring it. I have dropped my sotck rubber down to about 26 psi. Any help on getting traction and how so tips on just how much gas to give it off the line would help me alot!

Thats not a option living with my parents.......dont really approve of street racing when insurance is about $5000 a year. Know what I mean. I cant affoard to get caught either paying as much I can for insurance. I thought about turning on my traction conrol but I know thats a no no. Also filled my gas tank up all the way.

So you want traction/suspension modifications that can be hidden? WTF??

You need a solution and the cheapest one is to get Drag Radials. If that's not an option, then why did you make a post in the first place? IT IS AN OPTION!!

The Lightning will prolly be running street tires too.

I can launch on my street tires with just a minimal amount of spin and roll into the throttle.

This takes practice. Lower your tire pressure and practice launching. Brake stall the car. When ready to go basically let off on the brake and roll the throttle up.

Again this will take practice to get the feel of your car. If the lightning has street tires and he does not know how to do this he will just spin and you will slowly pull out from him into WOT. Just don't panic and go into WOT thorttle too fast. Especially if you see him creeping ahead of you as he is probably throttling too.

I know, I have had a friend try to race me on the street, (I don't street race) He had a M6 he dropped the clutch trying to get a launch. I teased him with a little throttle blip pulled out and watched him fishtailing all over the place trying to get traction while I just rolled away.

Be careful and don't kill yourself or worse yet hurt someone else! You think insurance is expensive now.

My best advice is to save it for the track.

quick and easy half a$$ed solution is to drop teh front sway bar adn raise your front air pressure a bit.
or you coudl just go to the track where tehy have sticky ground for you to play on and you don't have to worry about your insurnace or getting caught by the cops.

Having tires(sticky drag radials) installed on a car isn't like having a car in a performance shop..geez. My Nitto drags were installed in under a half hour if I remember correctly.

Relocation brackets too...Have a set welded onto your rear axle and it will relocate the lower control arms to a better more aggressive angle for more traction. At like $65 for a set+ welding cost, it is cheap traction. Goodluck

Get some drag radials. They look like regular tires.

More importantly, go to the track. That way you don't need to worry about getting busted. This is the drag racing forum, not the "how can I be stupid and street race forum".

Drag racing is a generally safe motorsport, especially with cars that are essentially street legal. Perhaps if you take the time to educate your parents about drag racing they might not be so uptight.

If you don't want to change the car your only option is to change the driver.

In other words, learn to drive.

Now that we have gone down that road. This should be the first place you start. Too many people throw money at a car to make up for the drivers short commings.

Learn to roll in to the throttle and controll wheel spin.
